The final episode of Brides Of Christ entitled "Catherine" focuses on what life has become in the year 1968 at Spirito Santo particularly Sister Catherine and the characters that we have met in the last five episodes.
In it,we get to see clashes between Sister Catherine and Sister Agnes over the article written by Frances adhering to the use of birth control.Meanwhile,we get to see Mary Maloney, the mother of her friend,Brigid who decides to go to an abortion after finding out that she is once again pregnant with her seventh after taking into consideration that she can no longer have another child. Sister Catherine becomes directly involved when she urges Mary to use some form of birth control but she later is consumed by tons of guilt after realizing what Mary had gone through. As for Frances, she was expelled from school. This added more guilt to Sister Catherine after realizing that she has somehow ruined her future. She also persuaded an academically gifted Brigid, who was interested into becoming a nun,to go otherwise to the disappointment of Sister Agnes. In the end,she decided to leave as she felt that she could no longer be a servant of God for she go against a large percentage of the church's teachings and doctrines.Later,we see her become an author of new book which she dedicates to the nuns of Spirito Santo. She also still uses her name as a nun - Catherine Markham - instead of her birth name Diane.
The final episode truly is wonderful conclusion to the mini- series. It was just too bad that Sister Agnes wasn't given that much screen time to prove her side to counter the beliefs of Sister Catherine. It would have been better if she did fully see the transformation and the change of beliefs that Sister Catherine had after she left becoming a nun.
