Sitges Review: Joe Lynch's 'Mayhem' is a Violent Takedown of Greed

8 October 2017 5:00 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Bring down the whole damn house! Indie filmmaker Joe Lynch's (Everly, Knights of Badassdom) new film is another violent, deranged, totally crazy, totally fun film titled Mayhem. The title, which is a bit vague, doesn't have much to do with the plot - which is actually about a guy who works at a sleazy legal corporation that decides to take on the executives when a virus causes everyone to go crazy. I saw this film at 1Am with a crowd of horror fans at the Sitges Film Festival, which is the perfect time and place to see this kind of film, because they cheered at all the right moments. If you watch this one at home, it just won't hit as hard, but it's still a thoroughly entertaining horror action comedy mashup with a worthwhile message at the end of it. The concept for Mayhem is fairly simple, enriched with some fun characters. »

Mayhem Strikes In Trailer For New Workplace Horror Movie

6 October 2017 12:01 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If you were wondering what fan favourite actor Steven Yeun has been up to since the infamous demise of his character on The Walking Dead, wonder no more. Here he is, gloriously and deservedly front and centre in a new action-horror movie about workplace frustrations, and how to work them out. Directed by Joe Lynch (Everly), and written by Matias Caruso (in his feature length debut) – this is the trailer for Mayhem.

If the promotional footage above puts you in mind of 2016’s The Belko Experiment, you’re not incorrect. Both centre their action around violence between people trapped in an office environment for an extended period of time. There’s an important difference, though.

Where The Belko Experiment is steeped in conspiracy and suspicion, Mayhem could not be simpler. An infection sweeps through the offices of Towers & Smythe Consulting, and the government quarantines the building. They then inform those »

27 August 2017 11:45 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Mayhem Review: A virus that causes people to lose their inhibitions sweeps through an office building in this chaotically dark thriller. Mayhem Review

Derek Cho (Steven Yeun) is a corporate go-getter currently working at Towers and Smythe Consulting. Over the years he has painstakingly clawed his way up to his current position, but despite all his hard work, he finds himself the fall guy for a project he wasn’t even involved with. At the same time that this is unfolding, the office that he works in becomes infected with ID7, a disease that allows the person’s ID to take over, causing a loss of inhibitions and an affinity for violence. As part of a safety precaution, Derek and his colleagues are all quarantined in the building for eight hours, just long enough for Derek to try and rectify his unjust and unfair dismissal. Armed with a bounty of weapons and an unlikely ally, »

Has Wonder Woman opened the floodgates for female action heroes?

7 August 2017 1:59 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The release of Charlize Theron spy movie Atomic Blonde is the first test of whether we are heading into a new era of kick-ass equality

If Jean-Luc Godard really meant it when he said “All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun”, how come he never made a movie with just a girl and a gun? Vivre Sa Vie might just about scrape through, but Godard basically took it as read that there would be a guy in the mix.

Hollywood, on the other hand, has started to take Godard’s maxim literally. We have had countless “girl and gun” movies recently, and virtually none have stuck. It’s as though the studios looked at Bourne, Bond, John Wick and all the other franchised-up action heroes and all had the same bright idea: “Make the hero a woman!” Often that becomes a woman wearing next to nothing, »

1 June 2017 7:17 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Filmmaker Joe Lynch recently enjoyed a well-received world premiere of his new movie Mayhem (read Heather's review here) at the SXSW Film Festival, and true to form, the Holliston co-star is showing no signs of slowing down, as he's now set to direct the horror film Taste from a screenplay by David Cohen, the screenwriter behind 2012's No One Lives.

Deadline reports the news of Lynch taking the directing reins on Taste, which will be produced by Erin Eggers, Chase Hudson and Matthew Porter of Penchant Entertainment, with Cohen on board to produce as well.

Filming on Taste is slated to start in Los Angeles this summer with a food-centric (and potentially cannibalistic) plot (via Deadline):
