Now Eddie Murphy's gone, who can be the Oscars host with the most?

9 November 2011 2:08 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Eddie Murphy has pulled out of hosting next year's Oscars out of loyalty to Brett Ratner. But who should take Murphy's place?

My God, what a – well, I hesitate to use the term "rollercoaster", as that is so overused for harrowing emotional experiences. But to be honest, this afternoon has been so harrowing, so emotional, such an experience that I'm afraid all I can manage are clichés. I am talking, obviously, about the Oscars.

Let me describe how this rollercoaster has gone over the past 24 or so hours. It went like this: hooray! then oh no! and then hmmm. I shall elaborate for those who, oddly, are not Oscars devotees.

On Monday it was announced that Brett Ratner will not produce Oscars 2012 after having claimed that "rehearsing is for [a word that this column would really rather not use, thanks all the same]." True, the loss of Ratner – a director for whom the phrase "is there no beginning to his talents?" could have been »

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks wants to be on Glee

Christina Hendricks might be mostly recognized as Joan on AMC’s Mad Men but the buxom beauty is constantly showing that she’s ready, willing, and able to step away from her small-screen comfort zone. A recent collab with Glee cast member Chris Colfer now has Hendricks in the mood to belt out a tune or two at McKinley High.

Colfer is making his big-screen movie debut with Struck by Lightning, which stars Hendricks, Allison Janney, Dermot Mulroney and Sarah Hyland, but Hendricks had Colfer’s small-screen job occasionally crossing her mind. “I would love to be on Glee,” Hendricks tells E!Online. “I sing a bit.”

A stint on Glee isn’t too far-fetched to happen, considering that Hendricks recently made her musical stage debut in a special three-night run of Company with Neil Patrick Harris and Patty LuPone. »

Two and a Half Men Season 9 Episode 2 Review: How Low Can Alan Go?

27 September 2011 1:24 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Alan: Charlie’s Dead, Wally’s married, what’s wrong with me? Seriously, what is wrong with Alan Harper (Jon Cryer)? His brother’s passed, his son’s grown, and yet he’s even more pathetic than ever. Optimistically, I guess we can say Alan’s remained true to his character right? But you’d think that after living with his brother all of those years that some kind of dignity or pride would have rubbed off on him. Isn’t it time for Alan Harper to win… something? Anything? Last week I said the character of Charlie Harper deserved better, but this week I have to ask, doesn’t Alan and Jon Cryer deserve better treatment? As far as lovable losers go, Alan is even bested by classic whipping men who were able to stand up for themselves at some point Three’s Company Jack Tripper played by »

“Raising Hope” cast braces for toddler time

HollywoodNews.com: Emmy nominee Martha Plimpton lets us know that she and her “Raising Hope” cast mates are bracing themselves for season two of the popular Fox show. The title character on the comedy that focuses on a good-hearted yet very, very seedy family, is no longer an infant.

“She’s growing up in real time,” the actress reports. “We’re not freeze-drying
her. She’s allowed to keep aging naturally. I imagine it’s going to affect
things profoundly. She’ll be running around, talking. There’ll be a lot of
things she won’t be willing to do — you know what I mean? Babies are a lot
easier. Toddlers are a whole other thing.”

As for her own character, Virginia, Plimpton says, “I guess one of the bigger
surprises is that she’s really convinced we’re going to see the end of the world
in 2012. I mean, »
