This exceeded my expectations.

Adam Dalgliesh is called in when Forensic Scientist Edmund Lorrimer is found dead at his place of work, Hoggatt's Forensic Laboratory, a private facility.

This had a lot to live up to for me, Death of an Expert Witness is my favourite PD James novel, and it is bound to be compared to the seven part adaptation with Roy Marsden, if you've not seen that I recommend it, it's very leisurely paced, but worth seeing.

I was hoping for it to be good, I didn't expect it to be this good, this was an excellent start. I feared that it would be rushed, being just a two part story, it's a complex story, with many strands, but they dealt with the plot very well here, some elements have been omitted, but it works incredibly well, it's very cohesive.

Bertie Carvel picked up exactly where he left off in series one, he was fantastic, Richard Harrington, Sam Hoare and Deborah Findlay were all excellent, this was a great cast.

Wonderfully produced, it's a classy looking production, the clothes, cars and sets are all spot on.

I'd go so far as to say that this is possibly Channel Five's best drama to date.

9/10.

Amazing actors and interesting stories

Warning: Spoilers
Bertie and Carlyss are great actors and the reason why I watch this show. Dalgleish is a different show with the way Dalgleish speaks and the intelligence he has that he hides. I like the pauses and the unwillingness to give people answers when their suspects when they don't answer a question.

The twists and simple countryside locations also add to the simple setting. Nothing extravagant but that is why British/Irish crime dramas don't need to reply on special effects or to a of action. They rely on their acting and ability to keep the audience interested. The acting is what sets Acorn TV and Britbox shows apart from other streaming applications.

Death of an Expert Witness - Part 1

Warning: Spoilers
Dalgliesh returns for a second series. With veteran director Geoffrey Sax, I noticed that the period look was more imposing.

It begins with Dalgliesh giving a public reading of his poetry. He could be moving on to better things. His book sales are doing well in the USA. Maybe it is time to leave the force.

Back in a pit in Norfolk, some teenagers find the body of a young woman. When the police arrive, forensic scientist Dr Edmund Lorrimer is at odds with others at the crime scene.

He takes the murder weapon to the lab to be analysed. Later that night Dr Lorrimer is killed by the same murder weapon.

Dalgliesh and Miskin investigate that Lorrimer was not a popular person, short tempered and dull. His work colleagues disliked him and even the police.

There was a good set up in the first episode. Some bits of folklore horror, apt for the Norfolk countryside.

The nitty gritty is Dalgleish and Miskin interviewing the potential suspects, a few of them having something to hide. There is a lot of foreshadowing in the first part of this two parter. You just know there will be another dead body soon.
