Bob Weinstein, co-founder and co-chairman of Weinstein Co. and Miramax, has long been overshadowed by his older brother Harvey, even when his Dimension Films label was producing most of the profits through commercial hits such as the “Scream,” “Scary Movie” and “Spy Kids” franchises.
Now, in a sudden turn of events, Bob Weinstein is attempting to wrest control of the Weinstein Co. as his high-profile sibling fights for his professional life amid allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior stretching back decades. A scathing New York Times story published Thursday reported that eight settlements have been paid to alleged victims, including actress Rose McGowan, over the past two decades.
On Friday evening, the TWC board confirmed that Harvey Weinstein has been placed on “indefinite leave” and that a law firm has been hired to investigate the allegations. Bob Weinstein and chief operating officer David Glasser will jointly run the company in the interim. It »

While Harvey Weinstein’s future is still unclear following recent revelations of sexual misconduct, one thing is clear: the Weinstein Co.’s film division is currently at a very low level of activity.
Financial woes at the company mean that its normally modest film production operation and its previously more active acquisition departments are both operating at their lowest levels in many years.
The studio has three films set to bow in the next year with the Thomas Edison pic “The Current War” opening on Nov. 24, the sequel to “Paddington” bowing on Jan. 12, the Kevin Hart pic “The Upside” on Mar. 9 and the religious pic “Mary Magdalene” get a pre-Easter opening on March 30. Weinstein Co. also has the action pic “Hotel Mumbai” awaiting a release date.

From Jigsaw to Leatherface to Amityville: The Awakening, this Halloween season will soon present horror fans with an embarrassment of riches as theaters across the globe begin hosting all sorts of cinematic ghosts and ghouls.
But if there’s one movie that was quietly shunned by distributors, it’s Jeepers Creepers 3 (for good reason, too, but more on that later). Yes, after years spent languishing on the brink of development, Victor Salva’s threequel faced another uphill battle when many of America’s major theater chains dropped it like a hot potato. Only a small handful of companies stood firm, leading to an exclusive one-night-only screening via Regal Theaters.
Such pent-up demand led to Jeepers Creepers 3 securing a second theatrical showing (October 4th), but other than that, the film’s distribution is about as limited as they come. Leave it to Syfy, then, to step in and secure JC3‘s TV premiere. »

If you’re someone who’s been looking forward to seeing Amityville: The Awakening, then odds are that you’re about ready to put your fist through a wall – and understandably so. After first being unveiled all the way back in 2014, the latest entry in the legendary haunted house franchise has been subjected to suffering delay after delay after delay, the most recent of which seemingly put it in limbo.
Thankfully, things began to shift in our favor, first with an international release, and then with the knowledge that the much anticipated horror flick will be made available for a limited time via Google Play starting on October 12. Upon hearing that, we decided to file that tidbit under “better than nothing.”

After years of delays, Amityville: The Awakening is finally getting a release. For real this time. The movie has been shifted around on the release calendar four different times, which is rarely a good sign for any movie. Especially a low-budget horror movie such as this. In any case, this will provide horror fans with something new to watch this Halloween season. The good part? The movie will be available to stream for free on Google Play.
According to Deadline, Amityville: The Awakening will be streaming for free exclusively on Google Play from October 12 to November 8. The movie is also being given a limited theatrical release starting on October 28, for those who are looking for something to watch during the Halloween weekend. That should help the studio recover some of the money they invested in this modern take on the Amityville Horror franchise, but in many ways, they seem to »

Every house may have a history, but when it comes to 112 Ocean Avenue, it’s imbued with horror and hearsay.
We are, of course, referring to Amityville, New York’s most famous haunted house first depicted in Jay Anson’s 1977 book of the same name. Fast forward 40 years and 112 Ocean Avenue continues to be a point of fixation for Hollywood suits, given Amityville: The Awakening is all set to become the 19th (!) film based on the horror saga and the first to see a theatrical release since 2005, so there’s quite a lot riding on The Awakening.
Directed by Franck Khalfoun, Amityville: The Awakening keeps things on the straight and narrow by centering on a young woman, Belle (Bella Thorne), who takes up residence in a new home only to find that it’s haunted by a strange, inexplicable phenomenon. Cue the jump-scares and shrill music.
But with a late »
