Jennifer Jason Leigh actually attended the live screenplay reading in Los Angeles, sitting next to The Weinstein Company chairmen Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein along with producer Stacey Sher. Opening this weekend is director Miguel Arteta’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  Based on the classic children’s book of the same name, the film follows 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) as he experiences the most terrible day of his young life.  But then, things get even worse and Alexander finds himself watching his upbeat parents (Jennifer Garner and Steve Carell), older brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey), and even the little baby of the family (Zoey and Elise Vargas) going through a string of events so terrible that they make up the baddest of very bad days.  For more on the film, watch the trailer here. At the recent Los Angeles press day I landed a video interview with Bella Thorne.  She talked about her character, what drew her to the project, who ruined the most takes from laughing, the junket game, what »

Bella Thorne: Stop Trying to Please Everyone and Just Be Weird!

29 September 2014 1:30 PM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

While promoting "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," star Bella Thorne had some advice that was anything but terrible, horrible, no good or very bad.The actress sat down over a plate of garlic fries with toofab's Brian Particelli over the weekend, where the two talked about her latest role, her stellar style evolution, going goth for "Amityville: The Awakening" and encouraging other to embrace their inner-weirdness.Check out the full interview below. For 16, this is one well-spoken teenager!toofab: What was it like playing the "mean girl" role in "Alexander"?Bella: You can't think of her as mean, you have to think of Celia as a perfectionist. That is her character. She explains in the movie why she needs this day to be so perfect for her and it gets messed up and she gets mad, of course. It's understandable. I think anyone can get mean if they're mad. »

'Amityville' and 'Demonic' Lose Their Release Dates

19 September 2014 6:13 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Dimension Films has suddenly pulled two upcoming horror projects from their release slate, Demonic and Amityville: The Awakening, just a few months before they were both set to hit theaters. The studio has not issued new release dates for either project as of yet, and it isn't immediately clear why they were both pulled.

Back in late July, Dimension Films issued a December 12, 2014 release date for Demonic, which is written and directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood), based on an original story by producer James Wan. Frank Grillo and Maria Bello star as a detective and a psychologist who interview one of the survivors of a brutal massacre where five college students were killed. The survivor explains that they were all ghost hunters, trying to discover a paranormal phenomenon.

Amityville: The Awakening had been set for a January 2, 2015 release since December, with TWC-Dimension releasing the first trailer last month. Jennifer Jason Leigh »

Trailer Alert! Amityville: The Awakening!

26 August 2014 1:52 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

There have been countless Amityville themed & inspired movies, sequels, reboots, knock-offs, so on and so forth. And with the sudden resurgence of spooky-filled haunted house thrillers kicked off by the Paranormal Activity franchise and continued with the success of Insidious and The Conjuring, it was only a matter of time before a major studio returned to the one that started them all! Amityville Horror!

Amityville: The Awakening, this Weinstein Company “official” sequel/reboot has been in the works for quite a long time. So much so that the Asylum beat them to the punch with their found-footage style Amity-rip-off The Amityville Haunting back in 2012 when this was originially slated to come out. But alas, they waited for the right script and director, dropped the tired found-footage again (thankfully) and are ready to unleash the evil of this infamous house in January of 2015! And here’s the first trailer!

Donnie Darko Producer Brings Us a New Look at the Biblical Apocalypse with The Remaining

26 August 2014 9:05 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

As a Christian who is involved in reviewing movies and interviewing actors and filmmakers, I’m always excited to hear about actors who share my faith. Although most critics pan any sort of Bible-based movie, I give them a chance if they fall within certain genres. I’m always on the search for a good faith-oriented horror or sci-fi film that will break down the barrier between “secular” and Christian cinema.

One movie that immediately caught my attention as soon as I saw the cover of the graphic novel it’s based on is The Remaining. According to the official description, it revolves around “a group of close friends [who] gather for a wedding. The celebration is shattered by a series of cataclysmic events and enemies foretold by biblical end-times prophecies. The survivors face a horrifying, uncertain future as they scramble for safety, but as their world collapses around them in »

'Amityville: The Awakening' Trailer Brings a New Generation into the Murderous House

26 August 2014 | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Has any real-life story spawned more TV shows and feature films than the one behind The Amityville Horror? Jay Anson's book recounting the story of a family that moves into a house previously occupied by a man who murdered his own family has directly led to 13 feature films, including the documentary My Amityville Horror featuring the real Daniel Lutz who lived in the house as a child. It's been referenced all over TV, from The Simpsons to American Horror Story, and its theatrical influence can be felt from 1980's The Changeling to 2012's Sinister. And as if that weren't enough, now the story has evolved once again for a new generation in the form of Amityville: The Awakening. Directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac, P2), this new version stars...

The Amityville House Awakens Again in First Trailer

25 August 2014 1:08 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

You can’t keep a cursed house down. Still boasting that it’s “based on a true story” (maybe, maybe not), the latest “Amityville” movie, titled “Amityville: The Awakening,” gets a PG-13 rating and a new teen star in Disney princess Bella Throne. Okay, so I don’t know if the film is officially PG-13, but it seems like it to me from this first trailer. I mean, just about every shock scene here turns out to be a vision of some kind, which is kind of lame, but hey, after 50 “Amityville” movies, I guess that’s just how it is now. Take a look at the first trailer for “P2″ and “Maniac” director Franck Khalfoun’s latest contribution to the never-say-die horror series. It all looks shockingly generic and teeny-bopper-ish. The scariest thing here is Thorne wearing goth make-up. Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother »

Amityville: The Awakening Scares Up A Trailer

24 August 2014 9:33 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The based-on-a-true-story Amityville Horror franchise just won't stay dead, screeching back to life every few years. The 1979 original spawned several sequels (some went straight to DVD, or video as it was in those days) and had a reboot in 2005. Here comes yet another reset, with Dimension Films altering the story slightly for Amityville: The Awakening. The first trailer is lurking below via Yahoo. This go-around finds Jennifer Jason Leigh as a single mother moving with her three children into the familiar house, hoping for a fresh start. Things have not been easy for them: daughter Belle (Bella Thorne) is reacting like your usual movie teenager to the idea of starting over at a new school, younger daughter Julie (Mckenna Grace) is at that adorable, hyperactive moppet stage and son James (Cameron Monaghan) is bed-ridden in a coma with injuries that doctors predict he may never overcome. So he probably has it worst, »

Trailer for the Horror Film Amityville: The Awakening

22 August 2014 4:00 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

It has been 35 years since the horror movie classic The Amityville Horror was released in theaters. In 2005 we got a remake that starred Ryan Reynolds, which wasn't very good. Now we have a new mediocre vision of the Amityville haunted house coming out soon called Amityville: The Awakening. Believe it or not, this is 12th film in the series, many of which have been released directly to DVD.

The horror film was directed by Franck Khalfoun (ManiacP2) and it stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan, and Bella Thorne. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will be a very good movie, it's just a bunch of recycled horror movie thrills. Dimension Films plans a theatrical release for this one, and it will come out on January 2nd, 2015.
