‘Taken’ Director Pierre Morel to Helm Thriller ‘Big Stone Grid’

Taken” director Pierre Morel has come on board the long-in-development suspense thriller “Big Stone Grid” with plans to shoot the project next year.

Morel will direct from a script by “Bone Tomahawk” writer S. Craig Zahler in which big-city detectives are battling serial killers.

Zahler set up the project at Sony in 2011 with Michael De Luca on board to produce. The project went into turnaround with Lotus Entertainment now on board to finance and handle worldwide sales.

Lotus Entertainment’s Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel and Ara Keshishian are producing along with Adam Fields and Josh Bratman.

Morel’s directing credits include 2008’s “Taken,” starring Liam Neeson, Sean Penn’s thriller “The Gunman” and French-language thriller “District 13.” He shot the heist film “Overdrive,” starring Scott Eastwood and Ana de Armas, in France earlier this year.

Adam Deacon-starring 'To Dream' to open British Urban film fest

This year’s British Urban Film Festival will host the premiere of Nicole Albarelli’s debut feature.

Nicole Albarelli’s British drama To Dream will have its premiere as the opening film of this year’s British Urban Film Festival (Sept 14-20).

The film stars Ed Hayter and Freddie Thorp as two self-destructive teenagers who find their dysfunctional family life intolerable. They lead the cast alongside former BAFTA rising star Adam Deacon (Anuvahood) and former X-Factor finalist Diana Vickers.

Thorp will next be seen in Antonio Negret’s Overdrive alongside Scott Eastwood.

Baltimore-born Albarelli makes her directorial debut with the feature, which she produces alongside Aaron Wilson for Anomaly CInema. Tom Tornari is executive producer.

‘Chicago Fire’ Producers Sign Multi-Year Deal With Universal Television

Chicago Fire” creators Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have signed a multi-year overall deal with Universal Television, TheWrap has learned. Michael Brandt, Derek Haas Sign Production Deal With Universal TV

Michael Brandt and Derek Haas of NBC’s “Chicago” procedural dramas have signed a production deal with the network’s sister studio, Universal Television, Variety has learned. The length of the deal is not known, but it covers multiple years.

Brandt and Haas will continue to serve as executive producers on Dick Wolf and Universal’s “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.” and “Chicago Med.” They are also set to exec produce the franchise’s upcoming legal spinoff “Chicago Justice,” which heads into production later this month and will launch as an embedded episode of “Chicago P.D.

Brandt and Haas’ feature film “Overdrive,” starring Scott Eastwood and directed by Antonio Negret, which they wrote and produced, is set to premiere later this year. The two also wrote the screenplay for “2 Fast 2 Furious.”
