Could have been a 10
doug2go20 September 2022
This NCIS was better than most which is a very high complement as this is one of the best if not the best action drama series on TV today - this episode had mystery, suspense and action - so why not a 10 - they are continuing the absurd romance between Jimmy and Jessica - comic relief meets kick as agent - Really - doesn't work for me. The relationship between Nick and Jane is intriguing - but to continue 6000 miles apart would require contrived episodes that you might find on CW but not CBS as a rule. - the crossover is contrived ( to contradict my previous statement ) but wasn't done get Nick and Jane together - that is just a nice sidebar.

This crossover had sexual tension, funny exchanges, and action
talkteav20 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While the episode was fun and exciting, the cliffhanger felt a little like finding out Maggie Simpson shot Mr. Burns, good, not great. The flirtation between Tennant and Torres left me wanting more crossovers. The action in NCIS was exciting but it fizzled out by the second episode. I was hoping to see an explosion in NCIS Hawai'i but Instead was given a Batman and Robin fight that was too short.

While I did not get everything I wanted in this crossover, it was still lots of fun to watch. I'm definitely enjoying the relationship drama on both shows and can't wait to see how they play out. I am also interested in seeing how the characters in NCIS Hawaii develop this season.

As always, if you made it this far, thanks for reading, and let me know your thoughts on the NCIS Crossover.

Remember to keep it interesting, and Stay Channel Surfing!

Yes, we are Gibbs fans
neverenoughgold20 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Glad to get this out of the way! So, we are at the turn of a new NCIS, and everyone should be excited, correct? Mark Harmon will certainly be missed, much like when we lost other primary characters. I won't list them here, because if you are long term fans like my wife and me, you know who they are.

Today, we are hunting for Agent Parker, who left under suspicious circumstances at the end of season 19. A cliffhanger, not as powerful as when who shot JR, but it is what it is. What disturbs us is why did we need to import a couple key players from the new NCIS Hawaii? Unless, this new series is on thin ice?

Stay tuned folks, there is still more to come from the old standby NCIS. Just don't hold your breath for Gibbs.

NCIS running out of ideas
acfurst21 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
No Gibbs, no DiNozzo, Ducky is still listed but was absent from the episode (unless I missed a brief moment). The charm of NCIS is mostly gone, and the plot felt recycled. There were too many identity "twists" just due to lacking anything else. Nice to have Fornell back, but he had very little to do (and why did they kill off his daughter in a prior season?).

The romances aren't going to keep the show alive - do they think this is a soap opera? And the idea that "The Raven" was wreaking havoc just because he's screwed up mentally - that was lame. We were supposed to believe that Raven was super-smart and had a real motive for what he was doing. Just give him a believable motive - he wants money, he wants to reshape society, whatever, but not chaos for the sake of chaos. That might make sense for "The Joker" but this isn't Batman.

I still like having Gary Cole as Parker, great choice. They need to keep developing Parker's story and quirks (maybe he could tell the team they're going to need to work over the weekend, mmmkay?). But I think if the writing doesn't get better, this will be the last season for NCIS.

Episode 20-01
bobcobb3016 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well, they completely abandoned the chaos of last season's finale to take things in a new direction. I don't agree with the decision, but there was nothing inherently wrong with that.

But then it simply continued to go just a little too absurd for my liking.

I will say that I barely even notice Gibbs is no longer on the show anymore, something that seemed like it would be a difficult adjustment for many.

A decent enough episode if this happened in December or March or something, but it is the season finale of a legendary show, a show maybe entering its final season, so you have to expect just a bit more than this.

Hmmmmmmm...like crossovers...but worked it out...a bit obvious
writeon-8727527 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Yep...not a bad episode...maybe at times too many characters in one place at one time .. I lik crossovers and i think this one worked and good its a continued epeosode...But..

I thought their prisoner protested too much and also the guy was a top hacker...surely that must have been a clue for the agents that he was the raven...also as someone said already the Russian guy died in 2012 as per the poster. I worked out he must be the raven the second time they talked to him.

So I would have given the episode a six but gave it a seven because of the crossover..

Also watch the relationships dont overdo it ...the focus should be on the crime and catching criminals,,,

All in all writers could be more deceptive in their writing and try to fool us better...jeez even Murder she wrote episodes were harder to work out than this one...

Cliffhanger
dani-0324728 October 2022
Not a great episode, a lot of just running around and you don't really get very far in the story plus on top of that when they finally move along in the story it's a fricken cliffhanger. The only way to finish this episode storyline is to watch NCIS Hawaii season 2 episode 1 I don't like being forced to watch a show I don't watch or know anything about to finish the storyline from this episode.

I am fine with cross over episodes but finish the story. Do not make someone watch a different show. I know none of these characters and it not something I want to watch one episode of.

The next episode in NCIS has zero mentions of the storyline from the premier. This was clearly a stunt to try and make people watch the weak spin off series NCIS Hawaii.

How to spoil a new season
denise-dargan3324 September 2022
How do you spoil a new season of NCIS. YOU BRING IN THE USELESS TENNANT AND MALICK. Why on earth bring these 2 from Hawaii (stopped watching after Season 1 episode 3, acting terrible and a miscast) Really disappointed with the writers. NOT sure why they were there but they brought nothing to this episode. I still like Gary Cole and agree with previous comment regarding Jimmy and Jessica. If this is the beginning of this season I am not sure it will survive a other season. Crossovers with New Orleans and Las Vegas were excellent as Pride was a great leader and LV have some great characters with Sam and G.

An okay season premiere
harrykivi25 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"Blood in the Water", the premiere of the 19th season, was not great. I felt that the story did not focus on the serial killer case as much as I would have wanted to. "A Family Matter", the premiere of the 20th season, is unfortunately not very good either. It's not bad, but could have been better.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great. " A Family Matter" is well-directed, the music fits the scenery and the performances are good. It was nice to see Jessica Tennant and Fornell again, but I have really grown to like Gary Cole as Parker.

. The story has occasional intrigue, solid action and good jokes.

But...

. The mystery feels rather dull at times and takes too much time to build up to a crossover episode. Never been a fan of these crossovers. Agree with a previous reviewer, who has said that it feels quite forced to watch a show like "NCIS Hawaii" that one doesn't care for. The dialogue gets exposition-heavy at times and the villain's identity ( Herman) does not surprise that much.

Overall, a disappointing premiere

5/10 HK.
