A Shot in the Dark
biorngm11 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A well-thought and written story beginning with a confession of guilt, proving to be not all that true or successful attempt at self-defense from an abusive spouse. Follow the evidence as DI Poole would direct including the found victim, his watch, a button, a sun-bed mattress and a pistol belonging to a third party; of course, there is the affair between married couples, too. The phone found on the victim belonged to his wife and contained an assortment of lewd texts between his spouse and another man.

Poole uses his team members to seek the evidence, a history behind the arguments among adults to reveal the truth of the matters at hand. A dead end provides an avenue in a positive direction toward solving the crime. There were actually multiple crimes, the murder, the intended murder, the complicity and the police officer assault allowing for the lost murder weapon to be found.

A concluding summary was provided by the accomplice-wife describing her actions as loyal, trying to protect a philandering husband. She intended to save herself but he is to pay for his crimes.

Poole's revelation came when he comments at the station with magnifying glass in his hand something about the answer can be in plain sight, for all to see, but can be overlooked by most. His epiphany comes when inspects the photos he took from the suspect's villa noticing the sun-mattress buttons. His view of the found cell phone text messages helps him wrap the case along with the dumpster tossed mattress. The stopwatch recorded a chronology of the actual murder and disposal of the body. The gun Patrick used to kill Lucas belonged to Greg Collins, owned for killing rats and rabbits.

An above standard who-dun-it for the series with Poole making a duel arrest with handcuffs and the not so innocent other spouse planning to plea self-defense.

A conventional episode, but a very fun one.

Warning: Spoilers
Out of the four episodes I've watched of "Death in Paradise", "Wicked Wedding Night" is easily my favorite. "Missing a Body?" is definitely the most conventional mystery of the four, having tropes like (SPOILER) a police officer falling in love a beautiful female suspect, an open and shut case turns out to be a lot more and an innocent victim, who has been wrongly accused, but I must say:" Missing a Body?" is a very fun watch.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are amazing like usual in this entry. The direction's very smooth and "Missing a Body?" is well-shot. The acting is also pretty good here. Miranda Raison's attractive and she shows herself as a fairly enjoyable actress. Emma Fielding and Neil Stuke are good as loathsome characters. Derek Riddel's fine as well.

. Because this episode is very cliche', the humor is works like a treat here. The story of "Missing a Body?" is mostly intriguing too.

But...

. Because this episode is very conventional and it's plot has been done so many times before, "Missing a Body" would have benefited from more twists, turns and surprises. There were quite few aspects in the narrative, which caught me by surprise.

Overall, not surprising, but highly enjoyable episode.

Warning: Spoilers
A woman claiming to have killed her husband, but the body is not where she said it occurred. His body is found washed up with injuries matching his wife's claims. D. I. Poole is not convinced that the wife is guilty, Camille teases Richard that its because he is attracted to her her.

Mix in adultery and dodgy business dealings into the mix, and it all makes for an unpalatable cocktail for the team to investigate.

Great fun

Warning: Spoilers
My favourite story of season one so far. It's great fun, especially the way Camille teases Richard. But it's blatantly obvious from the off that Megan hadn't killed her husband, she only thought she had. What really lets the episode down though are the lack of suspects. If Megan didn't do it, there were only really two other people in the frame. And what happened at the end? Was Megan arrested for attempted murder? It wasn't clear.

Unusual omission

I think this is the only episode I have seen where the commissioner doesn't appear at all.

Easter Egg

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a bit different: We see the beach shooting scene in the intro, what was supposed to have happened. And later we see the same scene how Megan remembers it. Did she fire one or two shots?

Brilliant Easter Egg for the observant viewer and yet it does not really help identifying the murderer.

Really clever story.
