Props to the makers of this film. I got to see Comforting Skin at VIFF this past year (alongside a few other stellar movies), and I was blown away. It's such a dark, intriguing tale of personal decay and the ripple effect it has through the people that are the closest to you.
If you get a chance to see it at a festival, go! The performances are beautiful, the score is astounding, and the story feels like it blossomed from a dark, quietly internal, purple and blue place.
Particularly notable are Victoria Bidewell for her unquestioning bravery, Tygh Runyan for his wry sarcasm in the midst of his isolation, Jane Sowerby for her snaky charms, and Derek Franson for his unparalleled perseverance.
Absolutely unrelenting. Don't miss it.
