Consider With Reservations: The Stars of Quantity Over Quality Cinema

20 April 2017 12:51 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The stars of yesterday now are making three films a year you never knew existed until they show up on Netflix.^ Real Movie ^

In my prior life as a script reader, I certainly read a lot of bad scripts, but at times, an even more common occurrence was a script that seemed to do a great many things right, but somehow fell just short of being something you wanted to champion as a movie. As draining as the terrible scripts were, there’s something pure about clear-cut bad. It takes little effort to explain why they’re unfit.

The real challenges were the scripts that had kind of a decent premise, kind of an okay twist or two, and a lead character who wasn’t bad so much as he or she was just… there. The raw materials are there for what Could be a script. They just happen to be assembled in the least compelling way »

This Nsfw trailer for The Hitman’s Bodyguard is everything

13 April 2017 7:58 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson will be seen on screen together in the forthcoming The Hitman’s Bodyguard, a new (very) R-rated action comedy coming in August.

The world’s top protection agent (Reynolds) is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world’s most notorious hitmen (Samuel L. Jackson). The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their raucous and hilarious adventure from England to the Hague, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator (Gary Oldman) who is out for blood. Salma Hayek joins the mayhem as Jackson’s equally notorious wife.

Elodie Yung, Joaquim De Almeida, Kirsty Mitchell, and Richard E. Grant are also amongst the cast of this hilarious looking new movie, »

The First Trailer For The Hitman’s Bodyguard Delivers Action And Laughs

Imagine if Pulp Fiction’s Jules Winnfield got older, and grumpier, and had to get to a specific location while under fire from potential assassins. Then imagine that any pre-Deadpool Ryan Reynolds character had to get him there. That’s basically what we have in The Hitman’s Bodyguard and, to great surprise, it looks to be exactly the film you’ll need to give your summer a boost.

Directed by Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3), The Hitman’s Bodyguard is the second script from Tom O’Connor (Fire With Fire), and boasts a wider cast that includes Salma Hayek, Elodie Yung (Daredevil), Gary Oldman, and Joaquim de Almeida (Our Brand Is Crisis). The premise is simple – the world’s greatest hitman (Samuel L. Jackson) needs to get to the International Court Of Justice alive, and the world’s greatest bodyguard (Ryan Reynolds) has to get him there. Complications »

Hitman's Bodyguard Trailer Teams Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds

12 April 2017 6:30 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

If you've been dreaming of the day where Deadpool and Nick Fury trade R-rated barbs on the big screen, you may have to just keep dreaming. But, if you'll settle for Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson cursing and shooting up a storm in a non-superhero movie, then the red band trailer for The Hitman's Bodyguard should be right up your alley, along with a new photo. Fans and exhibitors who attended CinemaCon earlier this month got to see an early screening of this action thriller, the rest of us will have to wait until August 18, and judging from this trailer, this could be a sleeper hit of the summer

Arrow season 5 episode 16 review: Checkmate

Tyler McCarthy Mar 16, 2017

Checkmate might be the best episode of Arrow season 5 so far, with the most charismatic and scary villain to boot...

This review contains spoilers.

5.16 Checkmate

At long last, Arrow season five has cut all the foreplay, faffing about, and stalling to deliver an incredibly satisfying one-on-one bout. As if that wasn’t enough, Checkmate rewarded viewers for investing in the mayoral aspect of the show with an impressive and intense political drama.

No time was wasted catching the characters up to speed following last week’s surprising reveal that Adrian Chase (newcomer to the cast Josh Segarra) wasn’t the surprising new anti-hero to arrive in Star City, Vigilante, as his comic book namesake implied. Instead, he’s the new dark archer in town, Prometheus. Our hero figured it out with a brief trip to »

‘Arrow’: Josh Segarra on Playing an ‘Unhinged’ Prometheus and His Plans to Destroy Oliver’s Life

15 March 2017 12:12 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler Alert: This post contains “Arrow” spoilers. Do not read until you have watched through Season 5, episode 15 titled “Fighting Fire with Fire,” which aired on the CW March 1.

Two weeks ago, “Arrow” answered the season-long question “Who is Prometheus?” with the shocking reveal that it was Star City district attorney Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra).

The reveal happened for no one but the audience, and the episode ended with Chase using his continued anonymity to kidnap Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) ex-girlfriend, journalist Susan Williams (Carly Pope). Variety spoke with Segarra about playing D.A. Chase vs Prometheus Chase, what’s in store for Susan, and more.

How different is Chase the D.A. and Chase as Prometheus? Is he more unhinged as Prometheus?

When he has that mask on I think he allows himself to go — to use the word you used — unhinged. As the actor, I’d see the suit, the »

Arrow Season 5 Episode 15 Review – ‘Fighting Fire with Fire’

Jessie Robertson reviews the fifteenth episode of Arrow season 5…

Winter Soldier homages, more political speak, and Curtis’ balls on display….what more could you want?

When you stand back and look at the CW’s shows, on the overall scale, it seems the universal opinion that The Flash is the best of them all; I mean, it’s doing amazing numbers and well deserved. The show is fun, just penetrate under your skin and heart fun, it’s warm, it has amazing special effects, and a cast that may not be seconded on television right now. But, for my money, in its comeback season, Arrow tells the most complete, most driven and compelling storylines week to week. Gone is the magic, and mystical and nuclear weapons (those showed up on Flash this week). It’s back to the streets; bad dudes beating up on bad dudes. But, this season, we »

5.15 Fighting Fire With Fire

Just when you thought you had a handle on the villains on Season 5, Arrow threw a big old curveball at viewers while expanding the role of its most interesting newcomer. At long last, the identity of one of the year’s two big bads is revealed, as huge shadows of doubt are cast on the other.

This episode promised to be another big bout with the morally ambiguous anti-hero, Vigilante. Plucked directly from the pages of DC Comics, many Arrow fans have thought they’ve known who the man behind the mask was for quite some time. However, all that changed as the bloodthirsty killer took a shot »

Arrow Season 5 Episode 15 Review: “Fighting Fire With Fire”

1 March 2017 7:32 PM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

There’s plenty of great individual moments throughout tonight’s Arrow, from Diggle reminding Felicity that her true superpower is empathy to Curtis saving the day with his T-Spheres, a creation he hopes will not only help Team Arrow out in the field but will also help mend his and Paul’s broken relationship. Unfortunately, though, a couple really strong scenes aren’t enough to save “Fighting Fire With Fire” from being a mostly dull and uneventful episode, an hour that spends more time on Oliver Queen as a politician and less time on him as a superhero and suffers for it. And since this

Wait... so Adrian is Prometheus?

We were blessed with that reveal Arrow Season 5 Episode 15, and I could not be more shocked. Throughout the course of Arrow Season 5, Adrian was seemingly Vigilante.

When Prometheus took the mask off and was revealed to be Adrian, I had to rewind confirm I did, indeed, see him take off the Prometheus mask. Seriously, it was such a thrilling twist and made this season infinitely more intriguing.

The show led us to believe all season long that Adrian was helping Oliver, but he was hiding in plain sight while planning his next move. Additionally, it seemed rather easy to have this Prometheus reveal so soon.

I thought for sure it was going to be dragged kicking and screaming until the end of the season. I like when shows have an element of surprise, but Arrow has been pretty predictable of late. Hopefully, this marks a »

‘Arrow’ Finally Reveals Prometheus’ Identity (Spoilers)

1 March 2017 6:01 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler Alert: Do not read on unless you’ve seen Season 5, episode 14 of “Arrow,” titled “Fighting Fire With Fire.”

After months of speculation, Prometheus’ identity has finally been revealed.

Following a fight with Vigilante, Prometheus removes his mask to reveal himself as Star City District Attorney Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra). This may come as a shock to fans of the comics, as Chase’s alter-ego in those is Vigilante himself.

“One of the reasons we did it was because — of course — everyone would be thinking he’d be Vigilante,” executive producer Wendy Mericle said in a call with reporters last week. “We thought it would be a really fun twist to do what we’ve always done on the show, which is to take the comic book mythology and turn it on its head.”

Segarra was as surprised by the twist as anyone.

“I got to Vancouver thinking I was playing Vigilante,” he »
