All-star British cast gets Gothic in Stonehearst Asylum

7 hours ago | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

A who’s who of British cinema stars in the Gothic psychological thriller Stonehearst Asylum.  Based on a short story byEdgar Allan Poe, the film boasts an impressive Brit cast including Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, Kate Beckinsale, David Thewlis, Brendan Gleeson, and  Jim Sturgess, it’s a miracle that this film managed to fly under the radar for so long.

Original titled Eliza Graves, the thriller is set at a mental institution, which film lovers will know, is always filled with flickering lights, dark hallways, and spooky sounds.  Sturgess stars as a recent medical grad who becomes smitten with his Stonehearst Asylum patient Eliza (Beckinsale), completely unaware that the mental institution has been taken over by its patients.

Directed by Brad Anderson (The Call, The Machinist), Stonehearst Asylum looks to borrow more than a few elements from Shutter Island, including the casting of Ben Kingsley.  The trailer shows the British »

Stonehearst Asylum Trailer And Poster Welcome You To The Nuthouse

12 hours ago | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s probably a very bad sign that I’ve heard nothing about Stonehearst Asylum despite the film starring the likes of Jim Sturgess, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Kingsley, Brendan Gleeson and Michael Caine. A cast like that usually gets a movie on my radar – but up until the trailer and poster for this upcoming thriller landed yesterday, I hadn’t heard a peep (though it is worth noting that the title was once Eliza Graves, which I had at least heard was in development with Beckinsale starring). Here’s hoping that radio silence isn’t because Millenium Entertainment is trying to bury the flick - even if the story isn’t exactly up to scratch, Stonehearst Asylum should be at least a fun chance to see Kingsley and Caine ham it up.

The trailer establishes a mysterious, almost ghostly aesthetic (à la Shutter Island) and seems to hint at an exceptionally twisty period thriller. »

The Inmates Take Over in the Stonehearst Asylum Trailer and Poster

31 July 2014 4:37 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

One weird thing about Stonehearst Asylum is that I had never heard of the film before today, despite a cast featuring Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley and Kate Beckinsale, but suddenly it's a real entity with a trailer and poster and everything. Of course that can happen when you've been operating under the name Eliza Graves (a film I had been aware of) for several years and haven't announced a title change.  Brad Anderson (The Call) directed it from a screenplay by Joe Gangemi.  The film is based on the Edgar Allan Poe story The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether. In the film Jim Sturgess plays a recent medical school grad who takes a position at a mental institution soon finds himself taken with one of his colleagues, though he has no initial idea of a recent, horrifying staffing change.  The film also stars Brendan Gleeson and David Thewlis. »

#SDCC14 Exclusive: WWE Superstar Glenn "Kane" Jacobs Talks See No Evil 2

25 July 2014 12:59 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

When he walked into the room, he nearly blotted out the sun that was peering through the hotel window while shining brightly on the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. There I was, ready to go one-on-one with the demon Kane, and I managed to come out without a scratch.

Before I begin, at this time I'd like to thank Kane for not chokeslamming me when I tried putting him in a sleeper. Of course I kid, but he was eyeballing some chairs and tables ominously during our interview about the resurrection of Jacob Goodnight for the Lionsgate / WWE Studios film See No Evil 2.

"I was sort of shocked to get the call really because the first movie had been a commercial success with WWE Studios’ debut film, and I thought, 'Okay, we’re going to do a sequel pretty quickly,' and it didn’t happen for, like, several years," Glenn Jacobs, »

#SDCC14 Exclusive: Danielle Harris, Kaj-Erik Erikson, and The Soska Sisters Talk See No Evil 2

WWE Studios is resurrecting the demon Kane as Jacob Goodnight in See No Evil 2, the upcoming sequel to See No Evil, but before speaking with the mammoth monster himself, we had the opportunity to sit with stars Danielle Harris and Kaj-Erik Erikson as well as directors Jen and Sylvia Soska.

"In the movie I play Amy," Harris (pictured) tells us of her character. "Amy works at the morgue and loves her job, dropped out of Med School to pursue it because she feels like at the end of the day we all end up here anyway."

"She’s got some family issues, issues with her brother, issues with her mother … not too far from real life. *laughs* I just so happen to be working, on my character's birthday, the night that … we pick up where the last one left off and there’s all these bodies … I’m always »

Peter Facinelli Unleashes 'The Damned' in Boring Horror Trailer

2 July 2014 9:44 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Just as the refreshing supernatural horror thriller Deliver Us from Evil hits theaters today before the big holiday weekend, a trailer for a much more generic and seemingly boring film in the same genre has arrive. If The Damned wasn't generic enough of a title for you, the trailer does a much better job of delivering the same kind of story and scares we've seen time and time again. At first it seems like this might be different with the set-up coming from a mudslide accident that leaves a family (led by Peter Facinelli) stranded in Colombia, but then it heads into familiar territory with a creepy, dirty, wet girl scaring them, things moving by themselves, and all that cliche jazz. Plus, it's just edited poorly with long-winded text bumpers. Watch? Here's the first trailer for Victor Garcia's The Damned from IFC Films: The Damned is directed by »

Abigail Breslin Fights for Her Life in New Trailer from Final Girl

A new trailer for Tyler Shields' upcoming thriller 'Final Girl' has been unleashed onto the general public. Hannibal Classics have unveiled the trailer which most certainly gives us a good insight into the original style that celeb photographer Shields has plumped for. By no means a stranger to controversy director Shields will no doubt be bringing his violent and bloody on-camera style to the proceedings. Abigail Breslin -below ('Zombieland', 'The Call') stars as Veronica who must beat a group of teenage boys at their own game in a deadly hunt for her life. Wes Bentley ('The Hunger Games'), Alexander Ludwig, Logan Huffman, Michael Trevino, Connor Paolo, and Francesca Eastwood also star. Head below for the new 2-minute trailer. »

Abigail Breslin's 'Final Girl' Gets A New Trailer

4 June 2014 2:35 PM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

If you were to check Abigail Breslin’s IMDb page, you would see that the young actress has spent a good bit of time in genre films.  She has Zombieland, The Call, Haunter, and the upcoming Maggie all on her resume.  You will also find a movie named Final Girl which filmed in 2012 and has been in post-production since March of 2013. It actually received an odd trailer that month, where director Tyler Shields showed the entire film in 1 minute.  That was the last we had seen of it.

That was until today. We now have a new, more traditional, trailer for this long gestating project and I have to say it has piqued my interest quite a bit.

Synopsis:

A psychological thriller about a beautiful teen girl new to town who is lured out to the woods by a group of senior boys to be the victim in their final initiation. »
