Actress Jean Sargent suffered a nervous breakdown during filming and failed to appear for part of the shooting schedule. It was reported that the producers considered replacing her, but she finished the film with no need for her replacement.
The print included by Synergy Entertainment on their 2009 DVD "Sherlock Holmes: The Archive Collection" is incomplete. It is missing the first five minutes, starting in the middle of Scene 12, omitting the song "I Always Get My Man" performed by Cliff Edwards in a courtroom, and scenes introducing the characters at the Hennessy house.
