Angel wings
28 November 2011 | by (New York) – See all my reviews

There are no big leads into the murder of the young waitress who was killed in front of the police at a hot house setting. Dexter's interest in examining the wings she was wearing at the time of her death proves to be a pivoting point in getting closer to one of the persons behind the murders that are related to the Book of Revelations in the bible.

New addition to the force, Mike Anderson, has been instrumental in linking what the criminals are doing to the story in the bible. All the killings reveal something about what the book describes, but so far, nothing has been found pertaining to the perpetrators and their motives.

Dexter gets lucky as he examines the material which held the feathers of the costume of the last victim. He discovers it is a piece of material much used in painting restoration. Dexter decides to pay a visit to the art museum. He gets nowhere with one of the guides, who ushers him into a small theater where a documentary about the process of handling the paintings. In the film, he sees Travis, the lonely man at the crime scene he saw. Now it is just a matter of patience in getting him.

Debra Morgan is up to her eyeballs in work. She is not accomplishing much, missing her old job and the action it went with it. Quinn stops by to see about getting the engagement ring back; he plans to return it to the jewelry shop to get his money back. It is clear he is still much in love with her. Trying to find more about Gellar during his time in Tallahassee, Deb dispatches Quinn and Batista to get more information. They get lucky with one woman professor who knew Gellar well. As the detectives are ready to leave, Batista goes to pick up Quinn at the woman's house, where he discovers a notebook full of drawings by Gellar, which seem to be exactly what is going on in Miami.

Dexter begins watching Travis. He knows now where he lives. Getting in the suspect's car he attacks Travis one night while driving. Travis is cornered, he tells Dexter more than he should have, implicating himself and Gellar. Dexter decides to keep a close look. Masuka has a new intern, a man that he wants to use to expunge the robbery of a human part by his former shapely assistant.

Gellar is ready for his next victim. She will have to be the 'whore of Babylon'. For that, he sends Travis to get her. Travis almost get caught in the act of snatching a drunk woman coming from a party. Gellar decides to take things into his own hands and he strikes a couple with his car. He is mainly interested in the woman, his next victim. This installment ends with Brother Sam being shot in his garage by a person we never get to see.

Directed by S.J. Clarkson and written by Scott Reynolds, the episode serves to bring Dexter in contact with one of the two criminals causing all the killings that follow a biblical passage. At the same time, the rapport between Sam and Dexter is over with the demise of the religious man that went to redeem himself. The director keeps things going at a good pace. Good acting from the regulars and guest stars.
