Crucial point in the relationship
12 September 2013 | by (Germany) – See all my reviews

This 5-minute short films is shot by the Bashford twins. Both are in their mid-20s born in the summer of 1988, so are we witnessing the next generation of film-makers? Judging from this short-film, unfortunately I have to respond with a negative answer. It's about a woman and men having reached a crucial point in their relationship. We don't really know what is going on or what happened. We just see them on the phone with each other trying to explain to one another what exactly the problem is. They don't succeed. Right afterward, we see that the woman received a message by somebody else that asks her if she told him, so she's probably having an affair. In the end, she and the man we saw earlier come together and hug each other while exchanging words that they love the other.

It's certainly a mysterious short, but not really in a good way and the strange joke about the guy willing to wear her underwear really doesn't help. It's just poorly executed as a whole. There's no suspense and, despite the characters' inner struggles, it's impossible for the viewer to build up any kind of connection to either of the two. Hopefully the next Bashford project will come with less flaws.
