With Peter Capaldi set to call time on his role as the Doctor following the current tenth series of Doctor Who, there’s been a lot of speculation as to who will be the next actor to take on the role of the iconic Time Lord in the long-running BBC sci-fi.
Last month, The Mirror claimed that Death in Paradise’s Kris Marshall had already been cast as the Thirteenth Doctor. However, the Radio Times is now disputing that report, stating that Marshall is no longer a shoe-in for the part, and that Luke Treadaway has caught the eye of the production team thanks to his work in the Sky Atlantic series Fortitude and his role in the feature film A Street Cat Named Bob.

Simon Winstone has been appointed as the head of drama in Wales for BBC Studios, the broadcaster’s television production arm. Winstone will oversee BBC Studios’ drama and serials business out of its Roath Lock Studios base in the Welsh capital, Cardiff.
The role will see Winstone take charge of the drama series and serials team overseeing all productions based in Cardiff, which include “Doctor Who” (pictured). He is charged with building on creative successes and seeking new opportunities offered by BBC Studios’ new ability to produce programming for alternate broadcasters both in the U.K. and internationally since launching this month as a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, a move which was approved in December last year.
“Simon is a highly talented and experienced creative, who has already contributed to the success of two of BBC Studios’ biggest dramas over the years – ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Doctor Who.’ I am delighted to be welcoming him to BBC Studios at »

Doctor Who returned to our TV screens last night for Peter Capaldi’s final series as the Doctor [read our review of ‘The Pilot’ here], and if a new report from The Mirror is to be believed, the BBC has already found his replacement.
According to the paper, Kris Marshall – who has long been rumoured as a contender for Capaldi’s successor – has already been cast as the Thirteenth Doctor, and that he will make his debut in the show during the current tenth series, rather than the Christmas Special.
“Kris Marshall has already joined the cast and will regenerate at the end of this series, not in the Christmas special,” claim’s the paper’s ‘source’. “They won’t risk a woman Doctor. They want a David Tennant type.”
Speculation that Marshall could be up for the role of The Doctor first began when it was announced that he was leaving the BBC’s Death in Paradise, »

The actor and producer joined us live from the National Theatre to weigh in everything from his most-coveted role to which packet of crisps goes best with two pints of lager
Really sorry I've got to go, a real shame because I'm quite enjoying myself. Great questions and a lot of fun - thanks for taking the time.
Did working with Jim Royle give you a head-start when Monkey Life came along?
You could say that - watching Jim Royle is like a study in anthropology. So yes, doing the voiceover for Monkey Life came pretty naturally after that.
Have to phrase this as a question or it’ll just look rude. How hard did you laugh when Jim said: “Finger, My Arse!”?
About as hard as I laughed at every other thing Jim said, whether I was supposed to or not. »

Ladbrokes has updated its odds with regards Peter Capaldi’s replacement in Doctor Who. According to the bookmaker, the new favourite is Doctor Strange star Tilda Swinton, which would put her in the history books as the first ever female Doctor.
Keep in mind that these are just betting odds founded on a great degree of research, taking into account statements from actors, historical trends, and the push to finally give audiences a female Doctor (Ladbrokes are offering just 5/4 that a female actress will be cast).
Who would you like to see as the Thirteenth Doctor? Let us know in the comments below… »

As ever, it's tough to put much stock in what bookies say on the matter. But, nonetheless, their stab-in-the-dark predictions are fun to talk about.
