One of the best!
jujumuff656 June 2020
As an American totally in love with British crime dramas, I found this series to be one of the best yet that I've watched. Peter Boyd (Trevor Eve) and his team made this series come to life. I literally wanted to cry when I finished the series. A big kudos to the powers that be for giving the last episode closure, unlike the endings of some episodes. I love this cast. I'd watch them forever.

End of the road.

Still trying to solve the cold case, Boyd is also now looking for Sarah, the net is closing in as a powerful foe is obstructing their investigation.

This show should not have ended here, there was way more mileage in it, from what I've learned, the cast were keen to continue, but The BBC decided it was time to end it. It consistently got enormous ratings, and never dipped in quality.

Waterloo concludes the show in style, not often a show ends with such a high, I can think of Blake's 7 and no other. This is a spellbinding, captivating watch, and very much one of the show's best offerings.

Paul McGann never disappoints, he is awesome here, what a fabulous actor. The final ten minutes are breathless, you will be on the edge of your seat.

One of the best dramas of all time, 10/10.

Brilliant episode of a brilliant series.

I really hope the high ratings will bring this show back, although producers wish to end it at its prime. First of all, please read the wonderful review of the Telegraph, listed in external reviews on this site, but beware of spoilers. What can I say since I cannot add spoilers? Acting is great, especially of Trevor Eve, who gets as his final case one similar to the disappearance of his son to solve. This final episode he shows once more the whole spectrum of his complex character: haunted by the disappearance of his son, his almost impossible dedication to the work. But it all comes full circle in the end, also with his team. You will sit on the edge of your seat, since the plot keeps on thickening until it seems to explode - and then there is a really good twist at the end. I also loved the meaningful atmosphere in the end, and the soundtrack played. So is this really the final episode? Looking at the quality, it is understandable producers consider now would be the best time to cut the series since, after Waterloo, where do you go from there? Well, what about another season, and another? English actors and TV makers are always able to astonish viewers with ease, so I have faith ITV can do it. Even if it would be half as good, it would still be ten times better compared to the quality you get from US productions - the only exception Miami Vice, which set the standard for TV, and who's final episode Freefall, especially the last 5 minutes, I consider to be the best TV has ever seen. But that was then and this is now - and what now, after Waking The Dead? Silent Witness? Too corny for me, and acting is not half as good as Boyd and his team. So I hope the producers and writers will have the guts to try and do even better in a next season! I even have some title ideas: The Boyd Ultimatum?

Excellent film making

Some of the WTD two hour films really do shine and this distressing finale is up there with the best. This is top quality deranged stuff and a fitting goodbye to the crazy but dedicated DS Boyd and his team. You are missed.

Goes out in strength

Warning: Spoilers
Miss this series. Good acting and the majority of episodes were great to follow.

This final storyline is certainly a strong end. Linking the murder of an ex cop in the 60s to the murder of teenage runaways in the late 70s to early 80s.

As usual Trevor Eve's performance as Boyd who was heavily invested in finding the answers was award worthy.

Oh dear once again authorities are the bad guy
paulmitchell-803907 January 2023
It's a story but by 2011 even Boyd wouldn't get away with beating up a suspect, thanks to PACE. The moment the custody sergeant saw his face Boyd would be suspended and advised to retire before he was sacked. The early stories were at least were within telephone distance of reality but by the time of this the ninth series any relation to police work is purely coincidental. This could have been a good story but once again the scriptwriters need for the police/authorities to be the bad guys derailed any chance of it having any chance of a plausible ending, sorry but having a gangster shoot the bad guy come on it's the finale why not have him eaten by a crocodile it's no less realistic. A.
