Sex & Nudity

  • None at all, refrences to characters having girlfriends. That's about it.

Violence & Gore

  • There are rare occurrences of blood but when they are shown it is often graphic - from characters being covered with it to an onscreen shooting.
  • The series isn't overly violent but some violent acts do happen, mostly offscreen and not bloody.
  • People fight, are hit, stabbed and one character's leg is broken but almost all of this is offscreen due to the cameras POV.
  • It is mentioned that someone's face is smashed in with a rock. He is later seen again with his head in a pool of blood, although due to the fact that you're watching footage from a camera strapped to his chest, you don't get a very good view of it.
  • A bloody sink is found.
  • A character gets hit with a maglite torch.
  • A man violently coughs up blood on a road.
  • There are many instances of mildly violent actions: several instances of a man threatening other people with a gun, people tackling others, and mild punches thrown at characters, though infrequently.
  • One character is hit over the head with a lead pipe, tied up to a chair, beaten to unconsciousness and has a gun pointed at his head. However, the attacker runs away before he can shoot.

Profanity

  • Almost no profanity throughout the series.
  • Mild profanity such as "hell", "damn","crap", "god" and "jesus" are used, very infrequently.
  • "shit" is kind of heard in one entry, but you only hear "sh" because it was shouded over background noises and another character coughing. On another occasion, you can hear one character start to say something which could possibly be "fucking", however you don't hear the full word as he is cut off by distortion from the camera.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • People are shown taking pills but they are medicinal, although one character does heavily overdose in one scene.
  • The character Tim is seen frequently smoking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Many scenes of home invasion, in which a masked character stalks Tim and steals his medication.
  • The totheark videos can be very disturbing, with strange loud noises and creepy imagery.
  • The show is full of very frightening scenes, from masked stalkers who eerily wait in dark places for characters to find them, rare instances of blood, three onscreen deaths and many other implied ones.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A character is told to burn to death, and the one saying this is pouring gasoline or another highly flammable liquid around a main character's house, though his house is burnt down and he makes it out unharmed.
  • In Entry #86, a character is punched several times in the face, a character spits blood on the ground, a character is stabbed in the back with a small knife, a dead character is shown on camera and his head is grabbed and pushed (it's still connected to his body), a character is held against a wall, being choked offscreen, a character is stabbed the neck, a character repeatedly stabs someone, though it is offscreen, a character is mostly covered in blood, a character is seen clutching a stab wound on his neck, and blood covers his clothes and arms, and is smeared across the ground, a dead/unconscious (he is presumed alive, though we are unsure.) main character lies on a staircase and is coated in blood. By far the most gruesome entry.
  • One of the main driving plots in season three revolves around Alex hunting for Jay and Tim to kill them.
  • In a recent entry, there's a very intense scene involving a main character getting shot in the leg with a gun. You see the blood stained on his pants and running down his hands. Quite gory for this series.
  • In another recent entry one of the villains is pushed off a ledge. He's killed and you see his dead body lying on the ground.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Around entry 76, it is discovered that Alex has been living in Tim's attic, waiting for Tim and Jay to return.
  • The ENTIRE series falls under this category. It is filled with jump scares, unsettling imagery, extremely claustrophobic camera work, sudden use of loud, icky, continuous noise, and an intense, unsettling and brooding atmosphere. The jump scares are frequent in almost every entry, however there are some breather epsiodes awell. There is also a constant state of dread and awareness coming from the scares which can upset younger viewers. In addition, the series has some quite emotional scenes particularly the scene involving the death of a main character and the scenes based around one character's time in a mental hospital which stay in the back of your mind and get more upsetting the more you think about them. DO NOT watch this if you are high-strung or have heart conditions. It makes one feel paranoid. Some characters wear startling masks, though it all becomes less creepy as you watch the show. It feels normal eventually.
