Laura Solon, who has been my favorite comic for some years, is hilarious as Alison, whose marriage is crumbling around her ears and doesn't know it until . . . "Tooty's Wedding." She has some wonderfully Laura Solon moments when she inadvertently commits sexual harassment on a man. Solon, who is extraordinarily good in character comedy (rather than just tell jokes she does her routines typically in the form of characters) and she is at her best in characters on the verge of hysteria. Her final lines in the darkened car toward the end (I won't tell you what they are but they are delivered to "Aiden") are first-rate Solon and she delivers them with wonderful aplomb as she tries to salvage her dignity. In the car scene, watch her eyes. She has her character down.
I am not familiar with the other actors, but except for "Aiden" they all deliver their performances so believably it becomes uncomfortable. ("Aiden" has some of his best stuff with his eyes).
The story: a couple, Alison and Peter (Solon and her longtime collaborator Ben Wilbond) go out of town to attend the wedding of Wilbond's old friend (or as Alison puts it, in his "gang") "Tooty" (Daisy Haggard). But Peter, who still has a crush on Tooty in the blahs of a long-term relationship with Alison, wonders if he can create a night of magic with an old flame--on her wedding day! And Peter is hiding other secrets from Alison, as well.
Not only is Solon simply marvelous, her character remains the funniest in the piece even when she is not on screen. How is this accomplished? Well, watch the movie and see. I gave the movie a seven for a special reason, but seven in this case is actually quite high. Wonderful short feature.
