The idea was for the two villains Doctor Octopus and the Vulture to later appear in a spin-off for the Sinister Six. Now that this series has been discontinued and will be followed by another reboot, the film about the villain team-up has been shelved and will have nothing to do with these Spider-Man movies at all.
Marc Webb had planned this series as a trilogy and thought he would return to direct "The Amazing Spider-Man 3". It was originally scheduled for release on June 10, 2016. Sony Pictures then decided to delay it from being released until sometime in 2018. An agreement was eventually made with Marvel Studios to have Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That led to the third film in the rebooted series being scrapped which means this particular character will have no more sequels.
