Storyline

A news team attempts to create a news show that reports the news in an ethical and reasonable way. They take real, newsworthy events from our world as they're happening (such as bin Laden's assassination, NSA spying, etc) and report on them as if they were an actual news station that followed rational and moral guidelines, in a biting criticism of our popular press and a clever blurring of art and reality. Trivia

The last episode of the first season of all three of Aaron Sorkin's TV shows (The West Wing (1999), Sports Night (1998), and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006), as well as the series finale of "The newsroom" (2012) are entitled "What Kind of Day Has It Been?" See more »

Goofs

The very beginning of the title sequence shows the Soviet Sputnik flying with its antennas oriented away from the Earth. The Sputnik wasn't oriented and rotated along all three axes while in space flight. That's why that design of antenna array was chosen - it allows equal transmission of radio signals in all directions. See more »

It is great to have him back
25 June 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I am watching it for a second time. All of the critics are acting as if Aaron Sorkin kicked dirt in their faces. The critics said nothing of substance- just vitriolic rants. Maybe Sorkin has hit a nerve. In a sea of crap T.V. this is entertaining. Believe me, we all know that the Newsroom characters are no more realistic than President Bartlet or Sam or Toby, Josh,Leo, C.J., Josh, or Donna. I don't think for one minute that the President of the United States has a secretary who doles out cookies, but I desperately need to believe that we are capable of being all of these characters. I desperately need to be quixotic for an hour a week.
