Samuel Jackson takes any work that comes his way, and unfortunately he took this.
11 May 2015 | by See all my reviews

This movie makes periodic runs at being quite good, but unfortunately keeps falling back into mere mediocrity and worse.

The grifter plot has a few clever and unexpected twists, but, in the final analysis, this film is only watchable because of Samuel Jackson. Jackson puts in a solid, but far from noteworthy, performance which carries the movie along. The other actors are purely TV-grade and not convincing or compelling.

The best way to describe how I feel about this thriller is that it is definitely superior to network television, but I really wish I would have spent my 90 minutes on something else instead.

This production is further evidence that Samuel Jackson's compulsive cinematic promiscuity (he is, after all, the highest-grossing movie star of all time in terms of his films' earnings) means that his name on a marquee has little predictive value as far as quality goes.
