Paramount Network has revealed its initial programming slate for its 2018 relaunch — a roster that includes new scripted series and a returning favorite in unscripted hit “Lip Sync Battle,” which has been renewed.
The fourth season of the Stephen Merchant- and John Krasinski-produced celebrity competition series “Lip Sync Battle” is set to debut in January, as its home, Viacom-owned Spike TV, relaunches as Paramount Network. The third season of the show is currently in production and set to premiere April 20.
In addition to “Lip Sync Battle,” Paramount Network has slated three new scripted series and one new documentary. hour-long drama “Heathers” and half-hour comedy “American Woman,” will premiere next year along with limited series “Waco” and documentary film “I Am Martin Luther King Jr.” Next year will also see new seasons of veteran Spike unscripted shows “Ink Master” and “Bar Rescue,” as well as Bellator Mma programming.

Ahead of its Season 9 summer premiere, Spike TV has renewed its hit tattoo-competition series Ink Master for a 10th season and given the green light to a female-focused special, Ink Master Angels. “Ink Master” has been renewed for Season 10 at Spike ahead of the Season 9 premiere, Variety has learned exclusively. In addition, the network has also greenlit a female-centric spinoff special titled “Ink Master Angels.”
Season 10, which has been picked up for 16 one-hour episodes, will go into production later this year and air on the rebranded Paramount Network in 2018. Season 9 is set to debut this June along with new episodes of spinoff series “Ink Master: Redemption.” “Ink Master Angels” will be a one-hour special that will feature four of Season 8’s top female competitors — Ryan Ashley, Kelly Doty, Nikki Simpson, and Gia Rose — as they travel the country competing against tattoo artists to see who has what it takes to beat them. Spike TV — on the cusp of becoming Paramount Network — has officially been put under the purview of TV Land president Keith Cox, and will officially be losing its executive vice president of original programming. As previously reported, Sharon Levy will be departing the network ahead of its rebranding.
Cox, whose title is president of development and production, will now oversee the strategic development and production of all series for both TV Land and the newly-announced Paramount Network (slated for early 2018). In his tenure at TV Land, he oversaw the development of multi-cam originals like “Hot in Cleveland” and the network’s more recent forays into single-cams like Darren Star’s “Younger.”

Keith Cox is set to be named president of development and production for Paramount Network, the relaunched version of Viacom’s Spike TV that is currently in the works, Variety has learned. Cox adds programming responsibilities for the rebranding network to his role as president of development and programming for sister channel TV Land.
Sharon Levy, executive vice president of original series for Spike TV, will depart Viacom. Levy had been with the company for 11 years, and developed series such as “Lip Sync Battle,” “Ink Master,” and “Bar Rescue.”

The deal includes Sptn taking a selection of the existing truTV content library with acquired series such as Snapped, Paranormal Survivor and Ink Master. Sony Pictures Television Networks has acquired British channel truTV, which launched in the U.K. in 2014 and reaches on average 3.9 million viewers a month, from Turner.
Kate Marsh, executive VP, Western Europe, international networks at Sony Pictures Television, said: “The acquisition of truTV increases Sony’s already broad reach in the U.K. TV market, and the channel’s strong mix of unscripted and original programming will be a great complement to our portfolio.”

Viacom CEO Bob Bakish has shifted oversight of TV Land and Cmt to Spike chief Kevin Kay, who will lead the three networks as head of the company’s Global Entertainment Group. The move continues the reorganization of Viacom’s cable brands under Bakish, who was named permanent Viacom CEO in December.
“Consolidating all three under Kevin’s leadership will strengthen these brands even further and will allow Geg to connect more deeply with our adult audience — which is well over 180 million viewers across Viacom brands globally,” Bakish said Wednesday in a memo to staff.

Endemol Shine North America is combining two of its unscripted production units to form a new company, Truly Original. The move brings together the companies behind such shows as “Real Housewives of Atlanta” and “Ink Master.”
Glenda Hersh and Steven Weinstock, whose True Entertainment was acquired by Endemol Shine in 2003, will oversee the new entity, which merges True with Original Media. In addition to leading True, the two executives have served as co-CEOs of Endemol Shine-owned Original since 2015.
“We are genuinely thrilled to be announcing Truly Original, which represents a blending of the respective strengths of two successful production companies, while maintaining the creative identity of each,” Hersh and Weinstock said. “We look forward to continuing to execute at the highest levels of creativity and innovation for our network partners, and to offering our executive and production talent even greater opportunity as our business continues to evolve.”
