Loved this!, 6 June 2014

This is my favourite Ghibli short from all that I've seen. I love the imagery in this, it's really, really well done and probably only comparable to Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. The colours are so vivid! It's an all-around eye candy.

Besides that, though, the characters are a hoot. Most are allusions to other popular fairy tale characters, or a sync between two or more different caricatures. For example, Mr. Dough or as I call him the Blanket Man - his initial figure can be compared to that of the Gingerbread Man, while later into the story he is 'baked' and evidently turns into something similar to the Golem. See what I mean? Then there's Baba Yaga, the definitive Russian witch lady. And the Egg Princess reminds me of Humpty Dumpty; there aren't too many anthropomorphic egg characters.

I am hoping to visit the Ghibli Museum one day myself to truly enjoy this masterpiece, it is just too good!
