Sean Penn to star in Beau Willimon’s The First

4 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Deadline is reporting that Sean Penn has signed on for his first major TV role, with the Oscar winner joining The First, a new straight-to-series sci-fi drama from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon.

The series “follows the first human mission to Mars, exploring the challenges of taking the first steps toward interplanetary colonization. The story focuses not only on the astronauts, but also on their families and loved ones, as well as the ground team on Earth.”

“I have such deep admiration for Sean’s immense talent and extraordinary body of work,” said Willimon. “I feel very lucky to be collaborating with an artist of his caliber.”

The First will go into production later this year, and is slated to air on Hulu and Channel 4 in 2018. »

Stephen King's 1922 Trailer Teases Mike Patton's Spooky Score

22 September 2017 11:43 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Netflix has just released the first trailer for their adaptation of Stephen King's novella, 1922, which is set to debut next month. Not only does the trailer look creepy, but it also sounds unsettling, thanks to Mike Patton's fantastic soundtrack that recalls a twisted take on a Hitchcock score. In a recent interview to promote the incredibly successful It, King alerted fans that this adaptation was really special and that it really "creeped" him out when he saw the rough cut. The legendary horror author also mentioned that he couldn't stop thinking about it, which is a good indicator since he basically said the same thing about the big screen adaptation if It.

The first trailer for 1922 comes to us courtesy of the official Netflix YouTube account and it is an uncomfortable two and a half minutes to say the least. Adding to the uneasiness is the original score »

The Punisher Premiere Window Seemingly Narrowed To October

22 September 2017 8:55 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

This week alone, The Punisher has unearthed blistering trailers, blood-drenched promos and new stills designed to place Frank Castle firmly on the warpath.

But for all of the hustle and bustle, a firm release date continues to elude Jon Bernthal’s ferocious vigilante. The Punisher will debut sometime before the year’s end, that much we know, but when it comes to a specific due date, Marvel and Netflix have been unusually tight-lipped ever since its first Defender-less solo series was confirmed.

It is, of course, a carefully crafted ruse to generate interest in The Punisher, though we imagine a fair amount of Netflix subscribers already have one eye trained on Castle’s standalone saga. Such a strategy is not without its faults, though, as there’s always a risk of some anonymous insider leaking the show’s release window ahead of schedule – or, as this case with Total Film, »

With Patty Jenkins now officially on board the sequel to Wonder Woman, the filmmaker has been reflecting on her DC Extended Universe debut during an interview with The Toronto Sun, during which she took a moment to praise Warner’s handling of the Dceu and its filmmaker-led approach.

“There are a lot of great filmmakers around the DC universe and there are a lot of great characters,” said Jenkins. “My favourite thing about the DC universe is some of these characters have been the greatest, most original superheroes for decades. I think there’s just exciting things to be done with them ahead and lots of different people that I’m excited about seeing. All of us are very different and we’re all going to do different things. So I can’t wait to see the variety, personally.”

Jenkins also spoke about the creative freedom afforded to her by Warner Bros., »

Sean Penn is set to star in a space exploration series on Channel 4 called The First, from the creator of House Of Cards...

Sean Penn, the controversial, two-time-Oscar-winning actor who first achieved notable acclaim for playing one-liner-spouting stoner Jeff Spicoli, is about to do something that he’s never done in his storied acting career: headline a television series, specifically, streaming series The First for Channel 4 and Hulu.

Penn, like an increasing amount of A-list actors, will take the television plunge in this new project, which was given a straight-to-series order by the streaming outlet back in May - a space exploration-themed story set in a near-future that will follow humanity’s first mission to colonise Mars.

Interestingly, the visionary behind the series is not one typically associated with the space/sci-fi/adventure genre. Beau Willimon, who is best known as the creator, writer and »

Sterling K. Brown Opens Up About His Historic Emmy Win in Morning-After Interview

20 September 2017 6:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Sterling K. Brown can’t stop smiling.

It’s the morning after his momentous win at the Emmy Awards, and Brown is still grinning from ear to ear. Even on just a few hours sleep, it would be hard to extinguish that famous blinding white beam, what with back-to-back trophies to his name. After winning last year for his work as Christopher Darden in “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” on Sunday night he took home the prize for best actor in a drama for “This Is Us,” as the anxiety-ridden but oh-so-lovable Randall Pearson on the NBC-20th Century Fox production.

It’s been nearly two decades since a black actor claimed the prize — a profound fact that was not lost on Brown. Andre Braugher, who starred in NBC’s “Homicide,” was one of the first people he thanked in his acceptance speech. “It is my supreme honor to follow in your footsteps,” he »
