Barely Watchable
4 April 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I have great respect for Sir Elton John CBE but I don't think he respects women judging by his opening monologue. I felt that he considers women to be nothing more than baby machines. He should have just played one of his classic hits but he didn't. He barely played anybody but himself in the sketches shown on television. Tom Hanks and Jake Gyllenhall showed up probably because of John's acting abilities or lack thereof. Look when a big celebrity can't perform in sketches on Saturday Night Live, there is a huge problem with the show. I was deeply offended and disturbed by John's tone in the monologue about his son through surrogacy. I felt that wasn't the appropriate place for making jokes about the baby. Of course, John could and should have done something else like sing a classic song since he's there anyway. Sometimes, I don't know why Saturday Night Live gets a host like Elton John who can only play and sing the piano. He could have easily been the musical guest but not host. I hope Lorne Michaels and the show do better this time with Dame Helen Mirren in the cast.
