Anachronisms

In a bedroom scene, Julianne Moore's Sarah Palin is wearing the third jersey of the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche. This jersey was officially announced more than a year later on November 12, 2009 making it an anachronism for her character to be wearing it in 2008 during the Presidential campaign.

Character error

In a scene where Ed Harris' character, John McCain, is woken up in the middle of the night, it is clear that his arms are stretched out above his head. This is not possible, as due to the years of physical abuse/torture John McCain suffered as a POW, he is unable to raise both of his arms above his head.
Steve Schmidt tells Sarah Palin that, if everything goes according to plan, her Secret Service agents will be with her for the rest of her life. Vice Presidents only receive Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office, and if she were to succeed John McCain as President then ten years after leaving office.
When Rick Davis was Google searching for a female VP candidate, he typed the letter "J"

Continuity

After the phone call to Sarah Palin, the film cuts to August 27 in Sedona, Arizona. It shows a GMC Yukon driving along. The next shot shows a Chevrolet Suburban pulling up.

When McCain is sitting on the couch talking to his advisor, it can be seen that the bottom button on his shirt is unbuttoned. After cutting away and then back to McCain, all of his buttons are done.

Factual errors

A key scene has Steve Schmidt (Woody Harrelson) is lecturing Sarah Palin, telling her that in the history of the Republic, a vice presidential candidate has never given an election night concession speech. In fact, in 1984, Geraldine Ferraro, the only other female vice presidential candidate on a major-party ticket, did give a concession speech at the New York Hilton, saying: "I want first of all to congratulate President Reagan, and I have just telephoned Vice President Bush to convey my best wishes to him as well. They ran a skillful, spirited campaign and today they have achieved an impressive victory."
