Underwhelming and off-the-mark
hodgesdanny5 August 2022
Wolverine as anime should work, especially given the character's frequent occasion with Japan, but this series really misses the mark. There's a lack of excitement or originality, though there are moments of decent action, but the voice-actor for Wolverine is the real problem. He feels woefully miscast and nothing at all like the character should sound. Why didn't they just get Steve Blum? Unfortunately, the series just really doesn't work.

Average plot, nice selection of characters
kayumk26 December 2020
If you're a fan of either X-Men or anime, but not a hard-up fanboy of the former, then you should find this an enjoyable and entertaining series. Animation is great and I love the style. The (English) voice acting is fine, and the mix of characters are likeable although some are a bit under-developed. There is a good build up to the finale and it reaches quite a climax, but I felt let a bit let down by the final scenes after everything that happened. It's definitely worth the watch.

While I love these original comic book stories, straight from the source, even animation wise, these Marvel Anime segments aren't my favorite to watch, great Wolverine story though!

People are not surprised
Mysterygeneration15 January 2024
People are not surprised that Marvel is working on a different project with their best-selling character, Wolverine, from recent years. For likeable reasons, rather than because of the inability of recent films like Iron Man to draw crowds, I personally checked this out. Wolverine is one of the more endearing characters in the Marvel universe, and I've always liked him. Having watched almost every iteration of Wolverine that Marvel has released-in comics, films, and TV shows-I was interested to see how this one would do.

The plot tries to remain faithful to its origins, even though I don't find it that impressive. Wolverine and his entire attitude on life in Japan, along with the locals. Yes, he is in love with a Japanese woman named Mariko Yashida in this one. In order to be reunited with her, he essentially battles a group that has been holding her against her will. I initially found it difficult to accept this "storyline" because of the more recent iterations of Wolverine I had seen. Sure, it's quite sweet, but this kind of audience won't be pleased with romance in Wolverine. Wolverine, I want a rebellious attitude, like you just don't give a damn. This anime mostly fails to capture Wolverine's unpredictable personality.

Despite frequent fails to produce more gore or carnage from Wolverine's claws, the anime's art stays passable throughout. Though I think Marvel cheated in a few of these sequences, I don't think the artwork was ever genuinely deemed unsuccessful in the end. While it's not horrible, it's also not the best thing in the world. That's alright.

That's where Wolverine really starts to fall. This show has almost no or very few catchy songs. Marvel was able to think of something, but they chose not to. Themes for the last moments of episodes are appropriate, but they don't matter because they describe the series' dramatic conclusion. OK, but disappointing.

It was with the characters that Wolverine truly made a mistake. Yes, Omega Red is there (thank heavens), and the fight between him and Wolverine is definitely one of the best ones in the show. However, these are only weak justifications used by Marvel to place characters in inappropriate contexts. Omega Red could have had a whole different anime or storyline from Marvel, but they felt that "we gotta get him in there somehow!" I don't blame them for attempting to amuse us, but nothing seems to fit together perfectly. Is Kikyo meant to be the Samurai of Silver? When his sword emerges, why does it appear so innocent? Apart from being Wolverine's helpmate, what other roles does Yukio actually play? Sabertooth, where the hell is he?

The show is not without its shortcomings. While there are a few noteworthy bouts here, the majority aren't very noteworthy. Wolverine attempts to be someone he isn't in this incarnation. The program isn't a total bust; die-hard fans just don't think highly of it.

Completely Atrocious

Cheap animation, bad voice acting, and a garbage story shine through in this gold mine of wasted opportunity. Don't watch it, please. Your time is so much more valuable.

'Wolverine' Anime Series an action-packed alternate take on the Marvel character
ersinkdotcom22 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Of all the X-Men, Wolverine is the one who's proved successful at carrying his own weight outside of the team books. I think this is also confirmed by the anti-hero's stand-alone movie and another on the way. Japanese animator's Madhouse and Marvel Entertainment bring us the superhero's very own 12-part anime TV series to DVD. It's based on Frank Miller and Chris Claremont's successful 1982 storyline as its framework.

Wolverine's girlfriend, Mariko, is snatched by her father Shingen. He is the leader of a Japanese crime ring. She is promised to a man named Hideki Kurohagi for an arranged marriage. Wolverine embarks on a mission to rescue Mariko from the clutches of her father and battles several different adversaries along the way.

The character of Logan and his alter ego in the "Wolverine" Anime Series is distinct from other depictions. He appears younger and not as rough around the edges as he's portrayed in the comic books and movies. It feels like we are taken back to see how he was in his youth. Maybe that was the intention of the animators and writers of the show.

There's plenty of action and violence to keep fans of Wolverine and the X-Men satisfied. The anime style also moves things along at a breakneck speed. If you already love the character, then this series will give you something to tide you over until his next big-screen adventure in "The Wolverine." It may actually give you a hint at what's to come since the movie is supposed to be based on the same story arc this animated series is.

Bonus material include three featurettes entitled "The Marvel Anime Universe: Wolverine Reborn," "The Ferocious Anti-Hero: Wolverine Defined," and "Wolverine Meets X-Men." The first two are around nine minutes long and delve behind-the-scenes of the series and the character. The last featurette is around 30 minutes long and spotlights the production crew of the show.

The "Wolverine" Anime Series provides a great vision of the character in the popular Asian artistic style so many people are fans of worldwide. It gives viewers an alternate take on the character and his world than we get in the "X-Men" and "Origins" movies. 12 episodes clocking in at 284 minutes and a few featurettes will make this a worthy buy for enthusiasts and consumers.

Marvel + Anime = Just Terrible!
daviddevilliers5420 March 2016
First off, I just want to say I the Marvel Animated Universe. And Wolverine is personally my favourite superhero from Marvel. But the only problem is that anime and Marvel Animation don't go well together. I hated this. It was badly animated and ugh, it was just terrible! I don't understand how people can even watch this. There are no words to describe how terrible it was. It had to spark of Marvel in it. The has got to be the worst Marvel Animated ever made. How can people even think about making this crap when it deserves to be thrown into the trash! It was not only the worst animation adaption of the Marvel Animated Universe, it is also the biggest disappointment.

Logan learns that his true love, beloved sweetheart and girlfriend Mariko Yashida, who disappeared one year ago, has been taken to Tokyo by her father Shingen Yashida, the head of the Japanese crime syndicate Kuzuryu and a supplier of A.I.M., in order to be wed to Hideki Kurohagi. Wolverine goes on a quest to rescue Mariko and defeat Shingen and Hideki, encountering several opponents along the way.

This was just terrible. I DON'T recommended this!

#NotMyWolverine

Warning: Spoilers
Seriouly what the hell have the done to Wolverine in this movie he looks like if he is in his early 20's. Milo Ventimiglia was a horrbile miscast as the voice of Wolverine he works pretty well for Noir-Spiderman from Ultimate Spiderman and Grant Alexander from X-Men Destiny but he just doesn't work for Wolverine. Yet Steve Blum was involved in this show but he voiced Kikyo Mikage instead and that wasn't anything spacial maybe he should have switched roles. In fact I wasn't very happy they used Fred Tatasciore as Shingen Yashida because it was just his regular deep voice I do admire his voice work but personally not trying to be racist or anything but they should have used an Asian or half Asian voice actor like Andrew Kishino, Keone Young, Eric Bauza, George Takei, Jame Hong, Kenji Tang or even Johnny Yong Bosch. Yet good voice actors like Kate Higgins, JB Blanc, Roger Craig Smith, Steve Blum, Crispin Freeman and Travis Wlingram along with a few other good voice actors were involved in this show but with a bad story.

It is no lie that I actually watched all 12 episode of this show which I marathoned in one day back in January and it was the worst mistake I ever made please don't make the same mistake I did. This show actually makes X-Men Origins: Wolverine a watchable movie.

Here are reasons why to avoid this: This is just the most weakest portrayal of Wolverine. The villian is just plain duchbag all he wanted was just to force marry Logan's ex girlfrend but yet it took Wolverine 12 episodes to stop him but and he was always 4 steps ahead of him. Everyone except for Kikyo Mikage and Wolverine dies even Mariko who he was meant to save dies. Heck even the worst part was Wolverine was actually working with the killer (Yukio) through out the whole series who murders his friend Tesshin Asano. Yet she confessed it after after when she was about to die so yeah this awesome team turned sour. Yet this show killed off an innocent girl and my crush on this anime (Min).

Overall its one of those anime which you watch once and you would rather not watch again been there done that.

My score 3/10 sign off

This thing is horrible
hajerkhalid20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Only God knows why I was watching an this thing that has a very annoying story telling and at the end the woman who he was fighting for dies wtf.

The flashbacks the way they give us the info the monologues the conversation everything is bad. I just continued watching because I didn't want to judge from the beginning. This sounds like the first script I wrote in college.

I don't like the animation style I know it's a Japanese thing but it doesn't work here. Man at least let her live give me a nice ending for this crap

And the voice actor made me hate my life. I need to wash my head after this.

Not wolverine, lol
mariusoberholster21 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really did not like this show.

If you've seen the Wolverine Origins movie, you can see how you can make a character routed for in a very short time. This is my biggest gripe with the series - it opens with wolverine and his girlfriend (?) on a boat dancing around and what not and is then attacked and I'm like totally apathetic. The problem is that this is the only scene where we see these characters - we don't know her and don't know where she comes from (remember, the show should work without in-depth knowledge of the comics), so not to be rude, but we don't care.

Then he goes on a search for her, which logically makes sense, but the whole premise hangs on a character we don't care enough about yet... Animation was good, but fell flat because the story was too basic and we're not given enough to care about these characters, like we know them personally.
