Storyline

The BAU are still mourning Prentiss' death, but celebrate Seaver's graduation. As all on the team, including Seaver, realize that she is not a replacement for Prentiss, Hotch is on the search for another profiler as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, they travel to Portland, Oregon, where two murders have happened. The victimology is different, with the similarities between the deaths being the victim first being bludgeoned then stabbed multiple times. The nature of the stab wounds and the petty theft involved with the murders make the team believe they are dealing with a gang. But when they view the site of one of the murders, Hotch believes that they are dealing with only one unsub - a schizophrenic - which is confirmed by other evidence at other sites. With subsequent similar murders, the team learns more about the unsub, which includes religious exorcisms. This case is especially difficult on Reid, who sees some similarities of the unsub in himself. Written by Huggo

The Doctor tells Ben that the electroshock therapy worked, and that he shouldn't see the voices anymore. ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) is used to treat Major Depression; it shouldn't have much effect on whatever mental disorder causes his hallucinations. See more »

Quotes

Mrs. Donnolly: Gosh, I've been in this building 27 years. Now, the worst incident we ever had was when Benjamin Headley up in 402 found out his wife was sleeping with the cleaner guy and shot him in the groin.
Derek Morgan: You've been a really big help, Mrs. Donnolly. Thank you very much.

Are The Producers Trying to Tank CM?
1 April 2011 | by (South Jersey, USA) – See all my reviews

Becoming a Criminal Minds freak just last summer doesn't mean I don't appreciate the legacy of the show. I've watched every episode to date, & this one just didn't live up. There's no other way to put it: 'With Friends Like These' was predictably written, & snooze-worthy in execution.

The unsub's trio of instigators were phantoms! SURPRISE! Within less than ten minutes we knew they were products of a troubled mind, but for some reason, the writers insisted on beating these dead horses to paste, the only twist being his insomnia. Repeated glimpses of flame, water dousings & references to exorcism seemed clumsy at best. And the 'climatic' scene where Reid's image becomes wavy was actually painful to watch.

Hotch was underused to the point of irrelevance, with Rossi trotting behind. We were subjected to Morgan acting as Seaver's nanny & Reid's shrink. Do they seriously think we're buying Seaver as a valid BAU profiler because Garcia baked her cupcakes? Or that we'll relish Reid spiraling into psychosis? For crying out loud, no wonder the kid has headaches. Lighten up! Give Reid a break & bring back the starlet in the swimming pool.

Seriously, I fear the Criminal Minds team has lost its way, or perhaps, they've split their creative resources to accommodate the unworthy spin- off, which would ultimately prove fatal to both shows. In either case, someone needs to listen to the disgruntled viewers & get the train back on its track... sooner is better.
