After Sterling and Lana hijack the air-boat, the shop owner notices that his dog, whom he calls Annie, is not asleep but is actually dead he says "well that's just great, now both my dogs are dead" as the next shot shows a gravestone that reads "Old Dan". This is a reference to the 1961 Novel "Where The Red Fern Grows", wherein the two hunting dogs of the protagonist are named Old Dan and Little Ann; in the shot, there is a red fern seen growing beside the gravestone. When Lana and Archer or riding the air boat you can see they are sitting middle to low of the fan but when the boat sinks the seats are closer to the top when it goes down. See more
