Storyline

Sassy, streetwise Max works two jobs just to get by, one of which is waiting tables during the night shift at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner. Sophisticated Caroline is an uptown trust fund princess who's having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she's surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max's knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but they first need to raise the start-up money. Written by CBS

West coast fail!
15 December 2014 | by (Netherlands) – See all my reviews

I'm Dutch and 2 minutes in the pilot they show Brooklyn bridge and I go huh??? Is Hollywood seriously trying to sell this as a New York scene? L.A. west coast industry trying to imitate a New York scene and failing miserably? I check IMDb and yes I'm right..... LOL!

As a teenage tourist visiting New York after cruising the surrounding areas, I felt an immediate relief not have to face people putting fake smile masks on their faces and saying HI HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY!!! This detachment from reality bordering on psychopath mimicry was quite unsettling and surreal at times, so much so that N.Y. was just plain comforting to the soul to be honest.

That L.A. fake flat happy and artificially inflated optimism I rarely get from more the gritty, earthy humanistic NY productions, which host a much wider emotional spectrum. Wherein down can be abyss deep down and as a result the ups can be more intense and all of it as a result a lot more noteworthy.

If I as a non native English speaker notice this in 2 minutes, what the hell were these producers thinking? Its just really really weird.
