Storyline

Sassy, streetwise Max works two jobs just to get by, one of which is waiting tables during the night shift at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner. Sophisticated Caroline is an uptown trust fund princess who's having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she's surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max's knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but they first need to raise the start-up money. Written by CBS

Trivia

Despite their characters having accents and being from other countries, Jonathan Kite, Jennifer Coolidge, and Matthew Moy are all born and raised in America and speak with American accents. Moy, though portrayed as Korean, is actually of Chinese descent. See more »

Goofs

Sophie Kaczynski's name should really be Zofia Kaczynska. The form 'Sophie' does not exist in Polish, and because Slavic surnames ending in '-ski' are grammatically considered adjectives, Zofia's surname should be the feminine form 'Kaczynska'. (In mitigation, the character may have dropped 'Zofia' in favor of the more English-sounding 'Sophie', but this doesn't explain the faulty surname.) See more »

Not very good except for a few one liners
10 December 2014 | by (Anchorage, AK) – See all my reviews

I've watched a few episodes and keep thinking it might get better because some people rate it highly and it's touted as good on some media. I just can't like it. I thought it was horribly unfunny at first and wanted to give it a chance before reviewing. Kat Denning(Max) has an irritating voice that could be put to good use if she could act. She has a few funny one-liners, but she sounds like she is reading her lines. Jennifer Coolidge(Sophie) has been a very funny character in movies, but I can't put my finger on why she is so bad in this TV show. The men-(Earl, Oleg and Ha Lee) are not likable. The only redeeming character may be Beth Behrs(Caroline). She can actually act. There are some humorous moments and that is why I rated it a 3. I wish I could give it more because of the few times when it has some comedy that is appealing. Great premise but missing the mark. I wish they would get off the TV to make room for something better.
