Exclusive: We hear that Bella Thorne is set to lead Masquerade, a home invasion thriller which Shane Dax Taylor will direct and write.
The project, which will shoot in Kentucky, follows 11-year-old Casey (Alyvia Alyn Lind of Daybreak and The Young and the Restless) who must survive the night after a group of intruders, led by Rose (Thorne), break into her family’s home to steal priceless artwork. The thieves will stop at nothing to get what they want, with shocking developments. Austin Nichols (The Walking Dead) and Mircea Monroe will star as Casey’s parents, with Skyler Samuels (The Gifted) as Rose’s cohort. EPs are Stuart Manashil, Joe Heath, Corky Taylor, Ron Kirchhoff, Jeff Walz, Brian Dahlin, Roman Terrill, Raja Collins, and John Lind. Taylor will produce alongside Steven Schneider and Kenneth Burke (Soul Surfer). Venus Kanani cast the film.

Home invasion films come in various flavors from the vicious (Kidnapped) to the fun (You’re Next), but the key to their success oftentimes comes down to the degree of intelligence displayed at both ends of the knife blade. Smart intruders are more of a threat, and smart protagonists make it all more interesting. So far, American Horror Story: Asylum has been chugging along at a pretty consistent rate. There’s been a surprise here, a twist there, and just enough mystery to string audiences along with the brilliant characters. Last week’s episode, the first part of the I Am Anne Frank run, hinted at a few nice developments, but never really changed what the show was going for.
But holy cow, did part two step up and knock it out of the park.
