CBS has cast two white actors — Poppy Montgomery and David Giuntoli — as the leads of its sci-fi pilot “Mission Control” even though both roles were originally written for people of color in Andy Weir’s spec pilot script, TheWrap has learned. Montgomery (“Without a Trace,” “Unforgettable”) is taking the role of Julie Towne, who is described in an earlier draft of the script obtained by TheWrap as the daughter of a Caucasian father and Latina mother who is fully bilingual in both English and Spanish. The character also spoke frequently in Spanish in the script. Giuntoli, a veteran of NBC’s. »

Every Studio Film Directed By Female Filmmakers Coming Out Over the Next Two Years

13 March 2017 10:02 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Numbers don’t lie. A recent study found female filmmakers remain “grossly underrepresented” when it comes to directing opportunities, and there is no arena in which that is more apparent than Hollywood’s own studio system. As The Wrap recently noted, “of the 149 movies currently slated for a wide release from the six legacy studios over the next three years, only 12 have female directors. That means a whopping 92 percent of the major motion pictures due in theaters through the end of 2019 will be helmed by men.”

That number only includes studio features from the big six, not speciality arms like Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, or Focus Features. However, adding those more indie-minded distributors (which are often heavy on festival acquisitions) doesn’t paint a much rosier picture. Over the course of 2017 and 2018, only 24 films directed by women will hit theaters care of a Hollywood studio, and despite continued attention »

Marvel’S Runaways Cast & Character Descriptions Revealed!

2 February 2017 2:56 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Marvel has had an interesting run with their TV shows. While we had our doubts about how everything would turn out when it became clear that they’d have properties spread out across separate networks and streaming services, it all seems to be coming together. Rather than horde their franchises to the same safe, Disney-owned entity, they divvied up their properties based on demographic. The more general stuff would go on ABC, the adult stuff on Netflix, and the teen stuff would go on other services, like Hulu.

Their first foray into the more teen-centric space with Marvel’s Runaways. Don’t recognize the name? No worries. The I.P. has nowhere near the recognizability of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the like, but we’ve seen Marvel work wonders with relatively obscure characters and properties. At the end of the day, that red Marvel logo and overall execution »

Marvel And Hulu’s Runaways Series Fills Out Cast

2 February 2017 2:23 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s been a busy few days in the Marvel camp – when is it not? – after we caught wind of Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph landing the title roles in the upcoming Cloak and Dagger TV series earlier this week.

Switching gears from Freeform to Hulu and we now have confirmation that Runaways, the adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona’s award-winning comic series, has filled out its preliminary cast. Chronicling the remarkable story of six teenagers who rebel against their morally corrupt parents, Hulu’s serialized rendition will feature the same team of adolescent heroes seen in the 2003 series: Alex Wilder, Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Gertrude Yorkes (Aka Gert), Chase Stein, and Molly Hayes, who has been renamed Molly Hernandez.

Marvel has cherry-picked half a dozen rising stars to headline the new superhero series, which is expected to air via Hulu’s streaming service. Gossip Girl creators »

Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham: It’s impossible not to stare at the actress’s perfectly spray-tanned cleavage in this black sequin gown. While the plunging square neckline packs some serious sex appeal, the design remains balanced thanks to the long-sleeves and flowing skirt. And if you think Bell’s glowing more than normal, that’s because she’s wearing more than 115 carats of diamonds courtesy of Harry Winston, including a pair of vintage 1963 three row diamond hoop earrings weighing in at 42.54-carats and a 68.57-carat bracelet. –Brittany Talarico, Senior Style Editor
