I'm a fan of the Mortal Kombat video games, played the original arcade game that started it all when I was 12, and yeah I even seen the live action Mortal Kombat film which I love. And on a side note, this franchise was one of the factors that inspired me to be a martial artist. Once the new MK game came out and became a hit (I played the revival it's awesome) the franchise had another wind and this of course brought in a live action web series which to me doesn't disappoint.

I really like the production value, it really looked like it could of be a regular TV series. The use of locations is good, costume designs of some of the characters are solid true enough to the video game counterparts. I even like the effects their actually on par. We even get to see something that the live action film never really did (not that that was a bad thing) we actually get to see some gore, which was part of what the MK video games were famous for. You actually get to see the characters utilize their fatalities moves when the fight comes to an end, my favorite kill at least for now is Kitana using her fan to slice someones head off in half like an orange. And the effects for them are practical so you won't be disappointed.

Even like the casting some I thought were perfect for the roles. Like Michael Jai White as Jak, I always imagined if there was a silver screen remake he would play the role. Same with Mark Dacossos as Kung Lau whom is also perfect. Both of them really look like the video game counterparts and of course both actors are trained in martial arts so they get to use their martial arts training which is cool.

However the best surprise is Cary Tagawa whom has played Shang Tusung in the live action movie he gets to play the same role in the web series which I thought was just awesome, this is a move at times I wish most revivals would try and do; he was still able to do it and he did it well.

The story is also very good it takes a little from the live action movie and background stories in the games and is able to do it's own thing. In a way it sort of like with the TV show "Lost" as it has a multi focus format as a sum of episodes each are a mini arc and are all focused on one or a few characters at a time. I even like how each have background stories that help make them all stand out. But also makes the show a bit of a mystery as were trying to figure out whose who, were also trying to figure out the cause and effect of what brought the characters to where they are now.

Another interesting thing about the show is that the seasons aren't really connected with each other, which is something different the only other show I seen this with is "American Horror Story". This to me is a good thing because it really allows the show to have a little more creative flexibility in story but most importantly allows them to utilize most of the characters in the MK games (which there are a hell of a lot) so it makes sense and kinda makes it truer to the video games because part of the joy in those games was in choosing which characters to use and reuse.

However the best thing about the web series and just like with the video games the real reason were in it for is the action. The martial arts chirography is done well and each of the characters get to use their power moves and fatalities. Two of my favorite fights are the fight between Kitana and Melina, I just really loved seeing both use their specialty weapons. However the one I really liked the most was the one between both Sub Zero and Scorpion, the best part of it was seeing Scorpion use his rope spear which was always one of my favorite power moves.

The only real problems I have with the series is the pacing can be a bit uneven. At times it feels like the drama can be a little long and it takes a while for the action to start, which is what were mainly here for. But this is only a minor glitch that I can easily work my way though and when the season gets further it does pick up the pace a bit.

Another problem is the score, it's not memorable which is a disappointment to me because that was always one of the best things about the live action film as well as some of the video games, not to say the music is bad there are some good tunes but nothing that really sticks in my mind.

Overall, I really like this web series. If your a fan of the MK video games and live action film (or just one of the two) then this is a series that is worth a watch.
