11 Most Promising 2015 Fall TV Shows

25 September 2015 2:28 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Good TV used to be an oxymoron. For many years, hour long shows were filled with situations that just didn't reflect what the viewing public wanted. Half hour shows weren't much better but at least they were funny. TV was seen as a graveyard. The place that actors went when their careers stalled. No serious director worked in this medium. Ever.

Then Reality TV happened and TV seemed to reach it lowest ebb yet. Whether it was couples searching for "true" love, or people getting $100 (after taxes!) for doing gross and disgusting things, it was one bad show after another. So you had bad episodic TV, bad half-hour TV and just awful Reality TV. Then something interesting happened...Cable TV and a little HBO show called The Sopranos.

Filled with real characters, violence, well written dialogue, and just about everything else that grabs viewers, The Sopranos showed that TV could be better than good, »

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried has a fierce look in her eyes that tells you to watch out; she may be adorable, blonde and petite, but there’s an undercurrent of danger in every look and glance – one that positions her as somebody who shouldn’t be messed with… or underestimated.

Most folk first got to know Seyfried when she appeared alongside Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams in the 2005 teen flick Mean Girls, playing the unforgettable sidekick, Karen Smith, a dim-witted member of a bitchy group known as “The Plastics.” Thankfully, the success of Mean Girls didn’t result in Seyfried being typecast into playing an endless conveyor belt of “pretty but stupid” female roles – good call on that one, Hollywood!

In fact, Seyfried downright refuses to be pigeon-holed and has thrived in lots of films across a variety of genres ever since, be they musicals (Mamma Mia, Les Miserables), rom-coms (Dear »

Music and Sex #6: New Experiences

15 June 2015 11:38 PM, PDT | www.culturecatch.com | See recent CultureCatch news »

Music and Sex: Scenes from a life - A novel in progress by Roman AkLeff (first installment can be read here; second here; third here; fourth here; fifth here).

[Warning: the chapter below contains "adult situations." Seriously, this one's not for the faint-hearted.]

Walter’s new home, Carman Hall, was an utterly soulless pile of cinder blocks. No effort at all had been made, during its design and construction two decades earlier, to build in anything conveying the slightest sense of warmth. No carpeting in either the halls or in the suites, no wood anywhere except the doors, no decorative touches, nothing but bare straight lines. One imagined it had been designed so it could be hosed down with minimum effort between school years to as to be literally as well as aesthetically antiseptic. There was not even any accommodation made for cooking; not only were there no kitchen nooks, even hotplates were forbidden (though, given that they were horrific fire hazards, that made sense, »

Christina Aguilera Goes Edgy With A Short New 'Do! Like The Look?

24 April 2015 12:00 PM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

Xtina's got a new 'do!    Christina Aguilera stepped out on Thursday night for "The Voice" Top 8 finalists event in West Hollywood -- and debuted an edgy look.   Gone are the "Dirrty" singer's long blonde extensions, as the singer appears to have ditched them in favor of her natural hair, which she styled in a wavy lob.   The star channeled her inner rocker in a vintage Guns N' Roses tee, a cropped leather jacket, a pair of skin tight black leggings and red platform pumps.   The mom to son Max, 7, and daughter Summer Rain, who she welcomed in August, has never looked better since debuting her post baby bod. The new hair is such an improvement over this:  We still wish she would take it down a few notches with all that makeup -- the 34-year-old is such a beauty, she doesn't need all the face paint!  Aguilera has been »

Interview: Writer, Director Allison Burnett on ‘Ask Me Anything’

4 March 2015 1:14 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The number of writers who have adapted and directed their own novels as films is a very small and elite club, and it includes writer/director Allison Burnett. His 2014 film, “Ask Me Anything,” is being released on DVD on March 3rd, 2015, and features Britt Robertson, Justin Long, Christian Slater and Martin Sheen.

Ask Me Anything” was adapted by Burnett from his 2009 novel “Undiscovered Gyrl,” and is a gritty and multi-layered story of a girl blogger whose truth telling gets in the way of her expectations. Up-and-coming actress Britt Robertson portrays Katie Kampenfelt, taking a sabbatical between high school and college. Along the way, she can’t help being attracted to older men, including characters portrayed by Justin Long, Christian Slater and the always virtuous Martin Sheen. “Ask Me Anything” is a modern and incendiary love story, if loving yourself becomes necessary for survival.

Disney’s Pete’s Dragon Remake Lands Wes Bentley

7 January 2015 12:52 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

With all things fantasy in movies, TV and gaming having reached an all-time high in recent years, it’s little wonder that Disney is hoping to step in on the action. When the news arrived last year that the studio were spearheading a remake of their seminal children’s classic, Pete’s Dragon, moviegoers weren’t quite sure what to make of it. In spite of the mixed responses, the burgeoning list of names added to its call sheet have been enough to raise interest in the movie.

After its two pint-sized leads Oona Laurence and Oakes Fegley signed on, Robert Redford’s name was thrown into the mix followed shortly after by Bryce Dallas Howard. While their involvement lent the film some significant clout – along with Ain’t Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery at the helm – development has quietened down, until today that is.
