‘American Fighter’ Film Launches With Tommy Flanagan, Bryan Craig, Sean Patrick Flanery

21 June 2017 6:09 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Producers Forrest Lucas and Ali Afshar are launching the underground fighting drama “American Fighter” with Tommy Flanagan, Bryan Craig, Sean Patrick Flanery, Parviz Sayyad, and George Kosturos attached to star.

The Esx Entertainment movie is a sequel to “American Wrestler: The Wizard”, which starred John Voight, William Fichtner, Lia Marie Johnson, Afshar, and Kosturos.

Shaun Piccinino is directing “American Fighter”, which revolves around a desperate teenager who is forced into the dangerous world of underground fighting to win enough money to save his ailing mother. He finds out what he’s made of in the face of hungry competitors.

Afshar, Christina Moore and Anna Zielinski are producing the film, based on Afshar’s story. Principal photography begins this month in Northern California.

“Continuing down the line of a ‘Rocky’ meets ‘Karate Kid’ story, this new ‘American Wrestler’ movie remains a very heartfelt project for me,” Afshar said. “The response to my true story was extremely motivating so I wanted to keep the story going in a consistent manner and tone and have the right script and cast to rekindle the magic of the first film. The sequel is an original story and not based on my life – I don’t think I would have excelled as an underground fighter.”

Lucas, founder and owner of Lucas Oil Products, teamed with actor-producer Afshar in 2015 to launch the production company Esx Entertainment. The slate includes action-drama “Ride,” starring actor and rapper Chris “Ludacris” Bridges; the drama “Dirt” starring Kevin Dillon and DeRon Horton; and “The Dog Lover,” a drama starring Lea Thompson, James Remar, Allison Paige, and Jayson Blair.

Flanagan’s credits include “Sons of Anarchy” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Craig won a pair of daytime Emmys for “General Hospital.” Flanery starred in “Boondock Saints” and “Powder.”

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are two of the biggest pop stars (and, equally important, cat lovers) in the world, which means a lot of people have a lot of thoughts on their lives. A popular fan theory is that the two have been embroiled in a long-running feud, but most of the supposed drama has really played out through elusive quotes in magazine profiles and subtweets that don’t really say anything at all – until now.

In October, both Perry and Swift attended Drake’s birthday party, with no drama to report. Yet a few days later at a Kanye West concert, »

Most recently, however, Tupper has transitioned from covering up crimes to solving them, with his latest role as an FBI agent working with an archaeologist (Courtney Thorne-Smith) to solve a murder in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries' Site Unseen: An Emma Fielding Mystery.

"I think Hallmark is doing this really exciting thing right now, where they buy a series of books, they're books for young adults, or adolescents, and they're really fun Agatha Christie-style mysteries," the Canadian actor excitedly told Et over the phone earlier this month. The behind the scenes battles of Pirates Of The Caribbean

Mark Harrison May 25, 2017

The Pirates Of The Caribbean movies have not been easy films to make....

As Michael Bolton once belted out: “This is the tale of Captain Jack Sparrow.” The Pirates Of The Caribbean film was a surprise sleeper hit in 2003, astounding the higher-ups at Disney who had long been sceptical of how a pirate movie, based on a ride at Disneyland, would appeal to audiences.

Off the back of this success, the sequels only got more ambitious and expensive in scale, with their use of practical effects and convoluted character dynamics serving to complicate the adventure format, with mixed results. It shouldn't shock you then, to hear that each of the movies released so far had some serious behind-the-scenes battles to make them shipshape.

The fifth and apparently final instalment, Salazar's Revenge (or Dead Men Tell No Tales), has had some very public battles before it has even been released, »

Pirates of the Caribbean Salazar’s Revenge Review: The fifth Pirates film hits cinemas this week, but is it any good?

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’S Revenge Review Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge Review

It’s been almost fifteen years since the first Pirates of the Caribbean film arrived in cinemas. The film, based on a popular ride at Disney’s theme parks, took the world by storm and proved that audiences still loved a pirate yarn. Then came two sequels in reasonably rapid succession (2006 and 2007), and with the narrative completed, we thought that was the last we’d seen of Captain Jack Sparrow. Then in 2011 we got another trip around the oceans with Sparrow, this time without his sidekicks, Elizabeth and Will. It lacked the pizzazz of the original trio, but despite lukewarm reviews, went onto the generate a massive box office meaning that film five wasn’t far away. »

Oh sure, rich people may get tax breaks and spa days, chauffeurs and designer duds, but none of that means anything if a rival rich family is allowed to prosper in peace.

The CW’s new series “Dynasty” takes that classic ‘80s primetime soap and updates it for the modern era. Sorry, but that means no linebacker-worthy shoulder pads or feathered hair. But there are still cat fights!
