A child is spanked heavily with a cane by his older sister; his uncle takes some of the blows for him. This is not a particularly frightening scene and is done for amusement more than anything else.

Two characters struggle in thick mud, attempting to kill each other. Several brutal blows are heard and seen and one man attempts to suffocate the other. Afterwards they are shown with several large wounds on their heads; there is some blood.

An older man harshly kicks a young boy in the leg while he is bent over a bucket, having his hair washed.

Two young boys have a brief and rather humorous fist-fight. One punches the other in the nose. A tiny bit of blood is seen, but it is not distressing.

One older man attempts to attack another, but is prevented from doing so.

Seeking revenge one woman attempts to kill the mistress of her husband's enemy. The victim lashes out with a sharp instrument which gashes her attacker's forearms brutally. A lot of blood is seen. This scene is very distressing and gory.

Miss Havisham burns alive after her dress catches on fire; Pip attempts to save her, but does not succeed. This is a very disturbing scene. Afterwards while dying her wounds are graphically depicted.

The raw, red, bloody burn wounds on a character's hands are shown while another man treats them.

One man kills another after struggling with him in the water by forcing him into the path of a steam ship's paddles. This is a very intense and violent scene.

Occasional use of the term "bastard".

In one scene Pip is seen smoking a cigarette and Magwitch smokes a pipe in another. The men at the gentlemen's club Pip attends drink profusely and act very rowdily thereafter. In one scene they all hurl their wine glasses into the fire place after making a toast.

Rated PG-13 for some violence including disturbing images
