Storyline

Walt Longmire is the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County. Widowed only a year, Longmire is a man in psychic repair that buries his pain behind a brave face and dry wit. Struggling since his wife's death and at the urging of his daughter, Cady, Longmire knows that the time has come to turn his life around. With the help of Vic, a female deputy new to the department, he becomes reinvigorated about his job and committed to running for re-election. When Branch, an ambitious, young deputy decides to run against him for sheriff, Longmire feels betrayed but remains steadfast in his dedication to the community. Longmire often turns to close friend and confidant Henry Standing Bear for support as he sets out to rebuild both his personal and professional life, one step at a time. Written by A&E TV

Trivia

In the series pilot, the license plate on the sheriff's vehicle has "5" as the first number, indicating that the vehicle is from Albany County. That is where Laramie is located, along with the University of Wyoming, which is the only university in the state. Laramie is in southeastern Wyoming, bordering Colorado. The Snowy Range mountains are just west of the city. Interior shots are filmed at the Greer Garson Studios on the campus of the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, in Santa Fe, NM. See more »

I love this show!
1 July 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Having been raised in New Mexico, I love seeing a cop show set in the West...... It reminds me of seeing the Sheriff Department's deputies driving out in the desert when I had the opportunity to go target shooting out in the "boondocks" with my brothers. These deputies would be out on the job making sure everything was cool; Longmire reminds me of these guys: good people, down to earth, wise in their ways, and knowing how to do their jobs. I love this show; and Robert Taylor, to me, is the Matt Dillon of the 21st century. I didn't realize Mr. Taylor was Australian until I read his bio. This guy passes the test with flying colors! He acts and sounds like he is from the old American West. It doesn't get much better than this.
