Old school vibe with a twist

I was hearing about this series for some time but wasn't able to catch it because it's not on cable in Baltimore area. Finally found it online last year and its actually pretty good.

The stories are interesting and there is usually a creepy feel to them. They all have some kind of twist at the end which I genuinely love.

My favorite of the ones I've seen so far is the one called Rest in Pieces. It was pretty creepy and had some nice gore shots plus the actors were believable.

If you like old school horror you will probably like this. Reminds me of the old Hammer & Amicus movies.

Missed this during it's original run

I saw a few episodes on video, and while I am not a particular fan of the genre, I was quite impressed. It was like the Twilight Zone, but with a strong horror theme (although not all the time), and without the pretentious, sentimental feel. What really impressed me was the 1950's style openings with the host. If you didn't know these were new you'd think they were from that era. They go a long way toward helping you appreciate the carefully crafted tales that are being introduced.

The other stand out thing about the show is the stories they get. They don't just dredge up whatever they can get from other shows. They get some original ideas. On top of that, you get the feeling that the actors are having a lot of fun telling doing the shows.

So, if you thought Rod Sterling didn't include enough blood, or you just like clever stories with cool introductions, and you aren't squeamish, then this is the show for you.

Gets to you

The scripts are brilliant, I must say. Every one I have seen so far has a factor that makes you want to stop and think about what on Earth you just saw, but you also can't dare to stop watching because of how interesting the entire plot line is.

Most episodes are filled with plenty of sleaze and graphic violence,so fans of exploitation won't be disappointed. The murders are stylish and sometimes gory, and Martin has populated the series with several strikingly beautiful women. This is a fun show if you are not offended by adult themes.

The only thing missing is more time for development of some of the smaller characters. (It's a half hour show.) But there's always a good explanation given for the killers motives. Overall a surprisingly good achievement.

Twilight Zone, Never heard of her

Warning: Spoilers
Lee Martin's The Midnight Hour is a seminal piece of independent film making. The highlight episodes to be sure to watch over and over again are: "Wings of Satan" and "Penny Pockets." Both of these episodes provide an ominous feel while still being entertaining enough to enjoy. By far the star of the show is young Nikki Johnson who has unfortunately went on to do nothing of note. She had such a strong start in this industry, it is a complete shame to see her throw it down the drain. Here's for hoping for a 2019 remake with Nikki Johnson as the star.
