Trivia

The average career for a Pan Am Stewardess in the 1960's averaged around 18 months due to the strict weight, age, marital status and childlessness requirements. Pan Am required its stewardesses to be at least five foot two and weigh no more than 130 pounds. They also couldn't be married or have children. On top of that the mandatory retirement age for flight attendants was 32. At 5'1", Christina Ricci would have been too short to have been accepted, and at 31, would only have had a few months as a stewardess until she would have hit the mandatory retirement age. Goofs

For the entire series, they refer to the head of Pan Am as "Juan Trippe." Juan Terry Trippe was named after a maiden aunt named Juanita Terry, and he positively loathed the name Juan. Everyone called him Terry, Terry Trippe, or simply Mr. Trippe, under fear of being fired, killed, or worse. See more »

I used to be a flight attendant with Pan Am
26 September 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

As a former Pan Am flight attendant I too felt like I was on a journey of a lifetime. As the first American class of Pan Am flight attendants we were hired 1 out of 3,000 applicants! I am writing some of my stories on my company blog at Beyond and Above Corporate Flight Attendant Training. Please enjoy them by searching for the page in Google "Beyond and Above the PanAm Way"

The show is great! A little off in some aspects, but what can you expect, this is Hollywood! The characters are beautiful and it reminds me why I loved the flying to begin with. I hope this will encourage woman and some men to pursue becoming flight attendants, most of all if they want a elite position like Pan Am used to have they should train to be a private jet flight attendant because commercial flying is just not as glamorous as you can see in the TV show!
