Will Smith’s NFL Concussion Pic Finds Its Dave Duerson

28 October 2014 3:43 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Exclusive: Lost star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is tackling another role in a Sony film, this time joining Will Smith in the studio’s untitled NFL concussion drama directed by Parkland‘s Peter Landesman. Akinnuoye-Agbaje starred recently in disaster period pic Pompeii and the upcoming Annie remake for Sony. He’ll play real-life NFL safety Dave Duerson, a three-time Pro Bowl pick who died in 2011 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. At his request, Duerson’s brain was sent to researchers, who determined that the athlete had suffered from the debilitating symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (Cte) caused by his football injuries.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alec Baldwin, Bitsie Tulloch, and Albert Brooks also star in the film which centers on Smith’s forensic neuropathologist Dr. Bennett Omalu, whose studies on Cte prompt the NFL to take brain-related injuries seriously. Ridley Scott, Giannina Facio, David Wolthoff, Larry Shuman, and Elizabeth Cantillon are producing. »

The Voice Knockouts Recap: Larceny and the Real Girl [Updated]

27 October 2014 7:38 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

The current, ubiquitous single by Taylor Swift, international music superstar and the best guest coach in The Voice‘s seven season history — gay blasphemy coming atcha in 5, 4, 3, 2… — by just a nose over Cher, champions the concept of “shaking it off.”

Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break/ And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake/ Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake/ I shake it off, I shake it off

It’s an excellent, albeit simplistically worded, life philosophy, and yet at this moment in my relationship with NBC’s reality singing competition, I just cahhhhhhn’t. »

Sia's cover of 'Never Fully Dressed' for 'Annie' is a super-fun and super-trashy

22 October 2014 4:05 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Sia has contributed a new version of "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" to the forthcoming film redux of "Annie" and, boy, is it bonkers. It's mastered to the max, it's got new, original fillings (just like your teeth!), it's got Sia still working out whatever accent Sia does, and it's trashy as hell. I kind of love it. If the film is anything like the accompanying music video to this "Never Fully Dressed," then prepare for divine and obnoxious child actors forcing your mouth into a twisted dumb grin for its duration. A patent corporate smarm will act as a thin layer of wax on the "Annie" of old and transition it into a viral video-binging, non-stop comic, New York-worshipping, anti-cynical pill to swallow. And maybe it's best this way, because I am going to watch this movie so hard. One reason is because "Annie" was one of »

Hear Sia's version of 'You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile' from 'Annie'

22 October 2014 8:23 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

First, an emoji version of "It's the Hard Knock Life," and now this: Have a listen to Sia's version "You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile." With its references to the likes of "Saville Row," "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" is one Annie song that clearly needed a modern update for the new movie remake (scheduled for a Dec. 19 release), which takes place in the 21st century. But did it need this modern update? Your guess is as good as mine. Let's just say it's very hard to do a time step to this version. "Hey, hobo man / Hey, »

Sia released the music video for her version of “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” for the upcoming reboot of Annie.

Sia's 'You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile'

Sia’s version of “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile” brings the song from 1982 into the modern day to fit into the 2014 film’s updated take on the story about the relationship between an orphan and a wealthy businessman with political aspirations. In the video, Quvenzhané Wallis, who plays Annie in the reboot, gallivants about the city with a horde of other children, holding up signs encouraging the city to smile.

In addition to “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” Sia is featured on two other tracks on the Annie soundtrack – “Opportunity “ and “Moonquake Lake” with Beck.

Will Gluck, who co-wrote the screenplay with Aline Brosh McKenna, directed the updated version of Annie, set »

This Week In Home Entertainment: Sex Tape, Snowpiercer And More

21 October 2014 7:19 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Sex Tape Blu-ray Director Jake Kasdan follows up his raunchy but lesson-building movie Bad Teacher with another flick about adults behaving badly. In Sex Tape, a couple decides to spice up their love life by putting together the titular tape; however, things don.t go quite as planned. Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) don't really understand the cloud, leading to the tape getting uploaded for their family and friends to see. Ridiculous shenanigans ensue. Like Bad Teacher, Sex Tape focuses a lot on the rapport between Diaz and Segel, who are both comedy pros. Despite this, they don't really sell well as a married couple with two adorable, likable children, although the addition of kids in the movie allows for some of the same sort of cheeky kid-based jokes that Adam Sandler also likes to employ in his films. Segel and Diaz have great rapport, but they are »

'Game of Thrones' Adds 'Lost' Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje

17 October 2014 3:09 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who Lost fans will remember as Mr. Eko, has signed on to star in Season 5 of HBO's Game of Thrones. The actor is playing a brand new character named Malko, who doesn't originate in the George R.R. Martin novels.

No further details were given regarding this character, and it isn't known if Malko has any alliances to any particular family or kingdom in Westeros. We reported yesterday that the Season 5 premiere will open with the show's first flashback, but since production has been under way for several months now, it seems unlikely Malko will be a part of that flashback.

The actor joins a massive roster of new cast members who were announced at Comic-Con, including Alexander Siddig as Doran Martell, Toby Sebastian as Trystane Martell, Nell Tiger Free as Myrcella Baratheon, Deobia Oparei as Areo Hotah, Enzo Cilenti as Yezzan, Jessica Henwick as Nymeria ("Nym") Sand, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers as Tyene Sand, »

Cameron Diaz has spoken about Annie, saying that she was terrified of taking on a role in the film.

The actress revealed that she had to overcome her fear of singing in front of people for her part as Miss Hannigan in Will Gluck's modern adaptation of the musical.

Speaking to Marie Claire, Diaz said: "It's not very often you get to do a musical. Even though I was terrified of doing it, I kind of had to. The two things I'm most terrified of are heights and singing in front of people.

"I've jumped out of airplanes and scaled sides of cliffs - not to get over my fears, but to address them. I just felt like this is something that needed to be addressed. I cried uncontrollably.

Cameron Diaz's role in 'Annie' helped her conquer her fear of "singing in front of people."

Cameron Diaz doesn't mind going nude on camera, but singing on camera is another story.

Crowdfund This: 'Send Me' – New Web Series w/ Tracie Thoms Dealing w/ Black People Sent Back in Time to Slavery Days

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. Who in their right mind would want to do that? But then again, the premise of the currently-in-development web series is what definitely makes it unique, wouldn’t you agree? Created by playwright, screenwriter and actor Steve Harper, and starring Tracie Thoms ("Annie," "Death Proof," "Looper" among many other film and TV roles), "Send Me" deals with a black woman (Thoms) who has the power to send black people back in time to slavery days. But Harper makes clear to point out that the people who do this in the series are doing it of their own free will:  “It’s not a punishment. They want to »

Martin Donovan Joins Marvel’s Ant-Man

While there’s always something stirring about one Marvel project or another, there’s one property that’s been suspiciously quiet as of late. It’s been a good six weeks since we’ve had any news on their troubled title, Ant-Man. Even then, it was a straw-clutching report about Evangeline Lilly’s haircut.

Now, however, we have something a bit more exciting, as THR reports that Weeds star Martin Donovan has joined the cast. As secrecy surrounding the pic is paramount, there’s very little they can reveal about who it is he’ll be playing. In fact, this is all they would offer:

Donovan’s role is being kept under wraps, but sources say it is pivotal to the story.

A key character in Ant-Man’s story is a rather broad description. As comic book adaptations go, there’s always the tendency to borrow characters from different storylines »
