The voting on our Best Lesbian/Bi Movie Ever poll closes next Tuesday, and if you haven't yet figured out what film deserves your click of approval, then perhaps you'll take some professional opinions into account. We asked some of our favorite out directors, actors and writers to tell us which movie they'd vote for to win the title of Best Lesbian/Bi Movie Ever, and it proved to be an interesting experiment. Most of them had the same problem you do: It's hard to pick just one! You might even get a few new films to watch out of reading their responses.

Morning Meme: The Morning-After-The Election Crowdsourced Edition

Editor's Note - Ed Kennedy was our social media hero with the election results last night, and didn't get a chance to finish the Meme. We'll have a wrap-up of the history that was made, but in the meantime, enjoy these tidbits from Ed, and feel free to add your own! (but please keep it PG-13!).

Something that caught my eye was CBS News correspondent Mo Rocca, an out gay man. His tweet said "As a @CBSNews correspondent I can't tell you how I voted. So I'll show you..." He then tweeted this photo. Have we found a new gay Republican, or am I misinterpreting it?

I don't see how I could be missing the meaning here

Sassy Pants | Review - Polari (aGLIFF) 2012

8 October 2012 10:00 AM, PDT | SmellsLikeScreenSpirit | See recent SmellsLikeScreenSpirit news »

As Sassy Pants begins, Bethany's (Ashley Rickards) high school graduation is rapidly approaching. She has been elected the valedictorian of her home-schooled class...of one. And, no, she does not want to give a speech. We quickly learn that Bethany's mother (Anna Gunn) is a tyrannical parent who has been left to her own devices to raise her two children -- Bethany and Shayne (Martin Spanjers) -- ever since her husband (Diedrich Bader) was caught doing the nasty with one of Bethany's male teachers. Her husband's infidelity has left Anna a bitter and jaded woman who no longer trusts anyone. This is precisely why she has home-schooled her kids; additionally, she wants Bethany to remain at home post-graduation and study via an online college. She is doing her best to shelter her children from the overtly dishonest world. The problem is, her over-protective nature is smothering Bethany and Shayne. »

Good morning!

Jodie Foster is developing a female-centric mob series for Showtime. Angie’s Body is said to be "a Sopranos-like drama that follows a shrewd and lethal woman who runs a family-based crime syndicate." It doesn't look like Jodie will star in it, but she is going to direct and executive produce. It's Showtime so I hope there are lesbians.

Remember when Wendi McLendon-Covey got drunk and kissed Ellie Kemper in Bridesmaids? Well now she's committing to being a lesbian on Modern Family. The funny lady will be playing "one-half of a lesbian couple whose son gets into a fight with Lily on the first day of kindergarten." Michaela Watkins will be her wife and Wendi tells EW:

I can’t wait. I go in and film it tomorrow and Wednesday and Thursday. »

Ashley Rickards Teases 'Awkward' Shockers

12 July 2012 9:40 AM, PDT | TheInsider.com | See recent The Insider news »

Now that I've publicly Dtr'd with Awkward in various interviews and gushy posts, I no longer feel the need to begin these posts explaining why I have such a deep love for the smartest, slyest, funniest show MTV has ever aired. And with the second season continuing to deepen my admiration for the wonderful world Lauren Iungerich has created, I feel the best is still yet to come.

Something star Ashley Rickards confirmed when we chatted in anticipation of tonight's third episode. One that sees the Matty/Jenna/Jake love triangle take an unexpected turn. But according to Ashley, that's nothing compared to a pair of major shocks that are set for later this season!

TheInsider.com: First of all, I have loved the new season so far.

Ashley Rickards: Thanks! I have to say, there's some pretty freaking exciting stuff coming up that's going to sound like a publicity pitch – but I'm actually downplaying it because »

Haley Joel Osment and Writer/Director Coley Sohn Talk Sassy Pants and Future Projects

1 February 2012 8:05 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Sassy Pants is a biting coming-of-age comedy that follows recent homeschool grad Bethany Pruitt (Ashley Rickards) as she struggles to break free. As valedictorian of her one-student homeschool class, Bethany is stuck at home with her younger brother Shayne (Martin Spanjers) and their oppressive mother, June (Anna Gunn). Unable to take it anymore, Bethany catches the nearest Greyhound to her gay dad Dale’s (Diedrich Bader) mobile home, where he lives with his fun, younger boyfriend, Chip (Haley Joel Osment). When the fashion-inclined Bethany learns about the Fashion Art Technology Institute, she sees a chance to break free, once and for all, and make her own way in the world. During an interview while at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (Sbiff) to premiere the film, actor Haley Joel Osment and writer/director Coley Sohn talked about the inspiration for the story, finding the right balance for a flamboyant character like Chip Hardy, »

‘Sassy Pants’ Trailer and Poster Featuring Haley Joel Osment

18 January 2012 5:28 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Remember Haley Joel Osment, the adorable/creepy kid from The Sixth Sense and Pay It Forward? He’s making a comeback in Sassy Pants and trying his darndest to make a new impression on a public that hasn’t seen him in a feature film since 2003 when he starred Secondhand Lions.

In the new independent comedy, he plays Chip, a young, hard-partying gay man who forms a relationship with his much older boyfriend’s naïve daughter. The bold career move reminds me of Macaulay Culkin, another former child star who tried to make the difficult transition into adult stardom by reemerging in edgy projects like Party Monster and the religious comedy Saved!. While it didn’t exactly work for Culkin, hopefully Osment’s makes a much more successful re-introduction on Jan. 28, the day when Sassy Pants premieres at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Here’s the trailer for Sassy Pants, some indie movie or something co-starring Ashley Rickards, Anna Gunn (Skyler from Breaking Bad) and Diedrich Bader (Oswald from The Drew Carey Show), but which mostly grabbed our attention because of the surprise big-screen return of a now 23-year-old Haley Joel Osment: It’s himmmmmm!!! “I see dead Adults…” So what’s Mr. Joel Osment been up to since the big Pay It Forward / A.I. double-Oscar-snub? Haley Joel Osment's All Grown Up And In Daisy Dukes in Sassy Pants Trailer

18 January 2012 10:16 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It has been some time since we've seen Haley Joel Osment. The Sixth Sense star practically went into hiding after 2003's Secondhand Lions, saving us all from watching his awkward stage unfold across the big screen like so many child stars before him. (Thank you, Haley.) Instead, Osment smartly sidestepped the spotlight, went to college, and took to voice acting, making only the occasional film appearance in a couple of movies you've likely never heard of. But now he's back and all grown up in the trailer for writer-director Coley Sohn's debut feature Sassy Pants. Based on the Sohn's award-winning comedic short "Boutenniere," Sassy Pants centers on the coming-of-age tale of Bethany Pruitt (Awkward star Ashley Rickards), a home-schooled teen who is desperately seeking freedom from the overbearing parenting of her sweet but smothering single-mom (Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn). So, she runs off to live with her absentee »

Haley Joel Osment is Grown Up and Gay in Trailer for 'Sassy Pants'

18 January 2012 8:53 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Though he hasn't done much in the vein of acting in nearly a decade (his last high profile film was Secondhand Lions in 2003), it looks like Haley Joel Osment is on the verge of a grown-up comeback. We've previously heard that Osment was looking to return to the big screen a couple other projects, but it looks like we might see his return in a film called Sassy Pants. In the film about a teenage girl (Ashley Rickards) with a gay dad (Diedrich Bader) and overbearing mom, who is trying to get a job and go away to college, Osment plays the father's young boyfriend Chip Hardy sporting cut-off jean shorts. 'Sassy Pants' trailer: Why yes, that is Haley Joel Osment

18 January 2012 8:05 AM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Sassy Pants looks a bit like Whip It if Ellen Page’s character found Joker makeup instead of Roller Derby. The coming-of-age film follows Bethany Pruitt (Awkward favorite Ashley Rickards), fresh out of high school and trying to spread her wings despite her suffocating mother (and by “suffocating,” I mean “wants Bethany to go to college nearby” — for shame!), her emotionally wrought, alcoholic, gay dad, Dale, and Dad’s hot young piece of cutoffs-wearing, line-dancing tail, played by none other than Haley Joel Osment (who is rockin’ the Pete-Wentz-circa-2007 bangs like the rent’s due tomorrow). New Trailer for Sassy Pants Starring Haley Joel Osment and Ashley Rickards

There are two things you don’t hear us say very often on this site: one of them is “Haley Joel Osment” and the other is “Sassy Pants.” Tonight marks the exceedingly rare moment where we’ll say both of those things in one sentence, as in, we have a new trailer for you from the comedy Sassy Pants starring Haley Joel Osment. The film, by debut feature director Coley Sohn, stars Ashley Rickards (Awkward) as a teenage girl who attempts to get a job before going away to college. Complicating her plans of escape are an overbearing mom (Anna Gunn of Breaking Bad) and her gay father, played by Diedrich Bader (Napoleon Dynamite). The aforementioned Osment plays Chip Hardy, the father’s boyfriend. Hit the jump to watch the trailer and see Osment like you’ve never seen him before (and probably never wanted to). Haley Joel Osment Grows Up in 'Sassy Pants' Trailer

17 January 2012 6:55 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

The toy boy of "Artificial Intelligence: AI" is now the boy toy of "Sassy Pants."

Sundance audiences get to see Haley Joel Osment as they've never seen before as the coming-of-age indie comedy makes its debut at the Park City festival this month. The "Sixth Sense" star is definitely all grown up -- and works the jean shorts as a much older man's lover.

It's certainly a far cry from the fantasy-based characters Osment was playing over a decade ago, and he looks like he might be the best thing about the rather precious-looking "Sassy Pants," which chronicles the trials and tribulations of a recent high school graduate who has to contend with her meddling mother and gay father. It looks a bit like "Terri," only with a pretty girl and not as funny or insightful.

Regardless of how "Sassy Pants" actually turns out, it's great to see Haley Joel Osment in a movie again. »
