Amitabh Bachchan to sing in Shamitabh

16 July 2014 9:48 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

While Bollywood stars are following the trend of giving voices to their own songs, Amitabh Bachchan, a veteran and legend had started singing for his films decades ago. After even singing for films like Kahaani ('Ekla Chalo'), Amitabh has now decided to croon for the R. Balki film Shamitabh.

Previously, R. Balki worked with Big B in the superhit film Paa which also starred Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan as well. Amitabh had sung a song for that film too titled 'Mere Paa'. Impressed with his singing skills, R. Balki has decided to incorporate yet another number in Shamitabh. Talking about the experience, Bachchan wrote about it on his blog saying, "Yes another session with Aadesh at his music studio did result in another song that I had to sing for 'Shamitabh' ... the finest quality of music from the genius of Ilaiyaraja, the magician from Chennai."

Vidya now gears up for her Emraan starrer Hamari Adhuri Kahaani

12 July 2014 4:09 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Bobby Jasoos has released and it is time for Vidya Balan to move on to her next. While on a personal front, she has gained good appreciation and acknowledgment for her Bobby act, Vidya is now stepping into a romantic zone after a hiatus with Hamari Adhuri Kahaani which is all set to go on floor. For Vidya, it is a different territory altogether as the last film with a strong romantic element was Ishqiya (2010) and that too had its own share of deceit, intrigue and suspense element to it. Ever since then she has experimented with the likes of No One Killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, Ghanchakkar, Shaadi Ke Side Effects and Bobby Jasoos where she has basically played on her versatility. With Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, she gets into a romantic space after a hiatus. "Well yes, this is indeed an intense love story and as the title itself conveys, »

Bobby Jasoos Movie Review

4 July 2014 9:35 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Born Free Entertainment comes back with its second release and this time with ten times more the confidence. With Love Breakups Zindagi they played it safe but with Bobby Jasoos they take a leap and it pays off.

Samar Shaikh’s is Born Free Entertainment’s weapon of choice and boy do they strike! Vidya Balan leads a cast for the first time since Kahaani and this time for a wholesome entertainer for all ages.

And although ‘wholesome entertainer’ may conjure images of yet another mediocre formularistic Bollywood film let me assure you Bobby Jasoos is anything but.

Set against the culturally rich backdrop of bustling Hyderabad, the film boasts of a high level of detail as far as the backdrop is concerned. From the scenery, to the linguistic to the life style, it all seems to be a slice of life from the heritage city.

So you thought Vidya Balan and Kolkata were the heroes of Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani? The director's next film tentatively titled Durga Rani Singh would have an unusual hero Kalimgpong (Nepal). Revealing the unusual location Sujoy says, "I am from Bengal and I know that geographical area very well. My film is a thriller that requires that sort of a landscape which Kalimpong is known for." Not willing to reveal much about his film ("The thrill of the thriller lies in its viewing") Sujoy does let out that Irrfan leads the cast in the kind of role he has never played before. "I haven't worked with Irrfan before. He is a hugely talented actor. There is much more that he can do apart from what he has been seen doing so far. I am not saying I am the magician who is going to open up the locked vault of Irrfan's talents. »

Indian Audiences Embracing Women-Centric Films

14 May 2014 10:07 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Indian cinema appears to be trotting toward gender equality in 2014 with several films featuring women front and center turning into hits and several more in the pipeline.

Leading the charge is the sleeper of the year, Bollywood’s “Queen” by helmer Vikas Bahl, starring Kangana Ranaut as a jilted woman who decides to go on her cherished European honeymoon on her own. The $2 million budgeted film grossed more than $20 million worldwide. Ranaut also stars as a gun-toting politician with a boy toy as the lead of “Revolver Rani.”

“I think watching films with heroes was our comfort zone and it needed a substantial push for audiences to get comfortable watching a film with a female lead only,” Bahl says. “But the driving force behind this has been the story and screenplay that has made people realize that a woman-centric film can be as engaging, entertaining and worth the money spent. »
