Storyline
The show is a mockumentary behind-the-scenes look at the Chelsea Lately show. The show's host and creative leader Chelsea Handler likes to think of her staff, especially the writing staff, as family, albeit a highly dysfunctional family where she is the only bright one amid a bunch of morons. Her writing staff is comprised of stand-up comedians who double as on-air personalities. The two special cases among her staff are her assistant, Chuy Bravo, her "Little Nugget" who basically does nothing around the set but look cute, and the show's chef, her one true family member on set, her brother Roy Handler who she treats equally as bad as her writing staff. Most of the characters, portrayed by their real life selves, are highly exaggerated versions of their real life. Written by

I gotta say, I love this show. It was a little slow coming out of the gate, but I have been watching every one and I think it's awesome. I'm a Chelsea Handler fan, but I don't like watch Chelsea Lately every day... but I love that this kind of show exists at E! And I've never seen a show that blurs the lines of reality quite this way, which is interesting -- not everyone is a great actor, but the fact that they are real people playing themselves is fun enough to make up for it.
It's not for everyone, but it makes me laugh... and it reminds me of Larry Sanders Show, just meaner and more real. I have fun watching these people because they sound like real people, like ridiculous conversations I have with my friends, and it feels natural, like people talking, like in The Office.
I guess if you don't like these people, or if you just want more Chelsea Lately, this show won't be your cup of tea... but it works for me and I've been telling my friends about it. I hope it keeps going, it's way better than the other crap E! runs. I only watch E! for The Soup and Chelsea Lately... and now After Lately. Keep up the good work.
