Cool sci-fi short
3 March 2011 | by (The Last New Jersey Drive-In on the Left) – See all my reviews

Specialist Dr. Cole (an excellent performance by Kim Santiago) arrives at a military installation so she can do an assessment on the personality of Genesis (ably played with chilling conviction by Louis Balletta), a powerful and potentially dangerous government founded cyborg who has killed five soldiers. Writer/director Chris R. Notarile expertly crafts a compelling short that not only looks quite polished and moves along at a steady pace, but also delivers a sound and provocative central statement on the drastic measures any sentient being will resort to for the sake of self-preservation. Notarile deserves extra praise for maintaining a coldly serious tone throughout and whipping up a nice plot twist along with a pleasingly violent conclusion. Moreover, it's a real treat to see the always watchable and captivating Santiago sporting glasses, a ponytail, and a really posh (and credible) British accent. The sharp cinematography gives the film an impressive slick look. Nice use of the hard rock song "Dissolve" by Die Section, too. Worth a watch.
