Charlie Bean To Direct Ninjago

17 September 2013 5:01 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

You've got your Star Wars, your Lord Of The Rings, your Harry Potter... but not all Lego sets are based on licensed properties these days. The company's original Ninjago line has been popular enough to have already built up to a Cartoon Network series and a Nintendo game, and it's now set to be the basis of the second Lego movie at Warner Bros. Charlie Bean, director of the Cartoon Network's Tron: Uprising series, will be putting the pieces together.Lego first attempted a short-lived Ninja line in the late '90s, but dropped it after a couple of years, only replacing it with Ninjago in 2011. Ninjago abandons the first series' apparent medieval Japanese setting in favour of a more fantastical world that has helicopters and motorbikes. The set-up has Ninjas and Samurai fighting skeleton armies, dragons, snake-men, and the evil warlord Lord Gamadon, who's been banished to the Underworld »

'Animation Domination High-Def': Mandy Moore and Vincent Kartheiser give voice to Fox's new programming

27 July 2013 2:00 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

If making an animated series was easy, a child could do it.

Actually, one is involved in the process now ... but that still doesn't mean it's simple, especially if several different shows are combined. That's the approach of "Animation Domination High-Def," a late-night franchise Fox debuts Saturday, July 27. Two of the 15-minute programs will be ready for starters, and Fox will give them preview showings in primetime Sunday, July 21.

"Axe Cop" is the component involving the child, Malachai Nicolle, who's 8 now. At age 5, he developed the premise as an Internet comic book with his much-older brother Ethan. Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation") supplies the voice of the sleepless, birthday-cake-consuming title character, with Megan Mullally (Offerman's wife), Patton Oswalt and Ken Marino furnishing other vocals.

Also in the initial "High-Def" lineup is "High School USA!" with singer-actress Mandy Moore and Vincent Kartheiser -- alias Pete Campbell on AMC's "Mad Men" -- »
