Mía

Almost ruined by Iván Wyszogrod's saccharine score which makes more sentimental the already too sentimental, and a couple of melodramatic scenes that seem out of place, since they betray the psychology of the leading character Ale (as when she tries to kidnap Julia, or when it is suggested Ale is contemplating suicide) it is nevertheless a fine first film by director Javier van de Couter, with good performance by the three leads. It raised strange thoughts in me, as the transsexual turns into a better mother than the real, dead one called Mía, and overall I guess it must have a reflection-inducing effect on all viewers on the subject of gender. Worth a look.
