Marcel is adorable Warning: Spoilers
It was a cute short. The main characters was endearing.

I personally I don't think think it was supposed to be an "emo" (Read: emotionally manipulative) short or something like that, just a mere accounting of everyday experiences told from an unusual perspective.

Oddly touching; Ultimately sweet!

Who would've thought that a tiny little shell could find it's way into our hearts by guiding us through his every day life? Well, apparently the mega-gifted Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer- Camp did. Jenny Slate, who is maybe best known for her involvement in SNL, also does the voice.

In creating this uber simple (in concept, not in retrospect that stop motion is never easy) 4 minute video, they attempt to fit in some marvelously witty jokes on top of creating a character we'll surely know and love for a long, long time

I'm happy to know Marcel the Shell and I'm more than thrilled to keep sharing this film with all my friends.

'Marcel The Shell With Shoes On (2010)' is a short stop-motion/ live-action hybrid in which a young shell (with shoes on) named Marcel gets interviewed for some sort of documentary. The picture is basically a series of improvised jokes that follow the same format: Marcel asks the interviewer to guess what he uses to do certain things, then gleefully reveals the often unexpected answer (an example is the revelation that he uses a man's toenails as skis). The short maintains its structure throughout its entire runtime, which does lead to a sort of repetitive feel that dampens the impact of the overall affair. Thankfully, though, the piece doesn't outstay its welcome. It's also wonderfully wholesome right the way through. Sometimes, a moment of melancholy or, even, poignant wisdom (born of innocence) slips into Marcel's monologue. This is unexpected yet effective, working well with the film's generally calm and confident demeanour. Because it doesn't pander to its target audience, it's ultimately more rewarding for everyone watching. Of course, it isn't a masterpiece. It isn't hilarious, and its repetitive nature does bring it down somewhat. It's good, don't get me wrong. It's an effectively simple affair that's actually quite heart-warming. 6/10.

Emo and unfunny

Warning: Spoilers
Baffles me to see this 6-year-old film with an 8.2 rating here on IMDb. Then again it shows that you can be entirely free of talent and still have a movie-making career appreciated by some. "Marcel the Shell with Shoes On" is a mix of live action and animation written and directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp. Co-writer is semi-famous actress Jenny Slate who also voices the title character in a really unbearable voice. The entire film is basically a collection of mostly unfunny one-liners that were intended to be funny though. It always sucks to see how quality movies do not get sequels and this one already has two. The best thing about it is that it does not even run for four minutes. Obviously shows that the material here is neither good in terms of quality and quantity. And almost painful to listen to. What an uninspired main character. Do not watch.
