Finally! The genius shines through.
17 March 2011 | by (NYC/FL) – See all my reviews

Finally we have an episode that shows some of the genius of the original. The writing is far superior to earlier episodes and I begin to remember why I liked the original so much.

In this episode the major characters as well as the supporting cast appear genuine and we can even understand and commiserate with the struggles that the characters are facing.

The love triangle between Tony, Michelle and Stanley really comes to fruition and we see a side of Stanley that makes him human and understandable.

The genius of the UK series was in its ability to give us appealing characters to drag us in then reveal the nature of the less appealing characters to us. Finally even the superficially appealing characters were given traits that endeared them to us and we felt like we understood the group dynamic. This is the first US episode that came close to that.

Rather than writing the series off now as a failed importation, I'm intrigued enough to go back and re-watch the earlier episodes to see if they had any merit that I missed first time around.
